I'm seeing polls that show most seem to think that the Cotto fighting Floyd is the better version than the one that fought Pac. Are people forgetting his opposition since the Pac beatdown? Foreman, a Arum cherry picked belt holder at 154. Them punching bag Mayorga. Finally, one eye Margarito. I realize this fight mattered to Cotto given the history but still, most expected him to win.

So how is this older and more worn Cotto the better version? Weight? Trainer change? Improved technically? If so, i would say all those reasons are pretty weak. Cotto is a small jmw. He was incredibly polished when he fought Pac. Maybe he's looked "improved" because of the comp. Maybe i can buy the trainer thing but that's pretty weak if you ask me.

154 Cotto with a winstreak and confidence is a better Cotto IMO

the overall condition of the fighter....

    healthy 154lbs

    3W streak i believe

and to me the most important is his mental state is better and confidence restored after beating Margo forcing a stoppage.

he has momentum....i think that is important as well as not having to worry about cutting weight in a manner he wouldnt care to.

all these things suggests he is a better version than Pac faced.

Skill wise probaly not too much a difference i do think the time with Manny helped a little and i think he is confortable with his corner as well.

You don't think he was a very polished fighter when he fought Pac? ****, then how on Earth did he outbox and outquick Mosley and Judah to go along with his ability to brawl in stretches? And he was pretty much toying with Marg before he got koed.

And yes, i expected Cotto to beat Marg the second time around. I bet money on this fight and Cotto was about a 2.5/1 favorite.

Just one more win in that streak than when Pac fought Cotto (Jennings, Clottey).

    :yep

I can dig up 100 threads were the general consensus was a margo repeat smashing. When Miguel fought pac he was coming off the margarito beating and a horrible showing(due to a cut) against clottey, add the catchweight, no corner and you got yourself a pretty weak version of Cotto.

Whats funny is that if you look at anybody else's resume at 154, Miguel's opposition is still better.

He looked like **** vs Clottey, that couldn't have been a confidence booster.

Not to mention lack of trainer.

I don't know if Cotto is better or not but weighing at 154 and having a solid trainer can't hurt.

Like i said, Cotto was the betting fav. That's not to say there weren't people who picked Marg to repeat his ko performance. I think most on this board understood how shot Marg was, the condition of his eye and that Cotto was the noticeably fresher fighter of the two.

That is complete BS Damn near everyone here gave cotto zero chance. No one started discrediting the fight until after it happened. I really dont understand why people here are hell bent on making Miguel look bad. Chances are Pac/Mayweather would be a huge dissapointment.

The cotto that fought Pac was still in love with boxing IMO.

Cotto now is a business man and about the money. He has stated this multiple times. When Cotto steps in the ring he will already have been paid. And that will make the differance.
