If I had balls of steel, I wouldn't have needed a giant protector.

And if I hadn't worn the giant protector, I wouldn't have children, courtesy David Tua.

You were hit low by Tua? That's a pretty awesome story. In fact, so awesome, that if it had happened to me, I'd use it as a conversation starter for literally every conversation I'd ever have. I'd use it to pick up chicks. Granted, they'd likely have no idea what I was saying as they probably wouldn't even know who David Tua was, but yeah...they'd be impressed.

I would too. I totally would.

"Sal, did you see that car wreck at the end of the street? What a mess!"

"I sure did! What a low blow that must be for that poor driver. Reminds me of the time........"

Like you said; every single conversation from here on out.

    Fought? Like, actually fought competitively?

    Lennox Lewis as an amateur.

Worst go of it I've ever had in the ring? Wlad Klitschko, prepping for Ibragimov. Talk about a freaking nightmare.

And getting hit low by David Tua was not awesome. Not even a little bit. I'd imagine it look like Holmes-Cooney, and I made a sound like air being let out of a tire. I couldn't even drop to my knees. I just kind of bent over, coughed, and tried not to throw up.

The Samoans thought that was HILARIOUS.

**** getting hit low by Tua thinking about it hurts me
Btw, was Tua not very good at taking body shots? Every H2H match up i've seen with Tua in it goes on about how Byrd hurt him to the stomach...did you ever notice somethign like it in sparring? or is it bull****?

Y'all are gonna think I'm either racist or stupid, but here I go.

When I was working in New Zealand, I noticed that NOBODY I was sparring was taking my body shots well at all, other than a lumbering moustached white guy with a french sounding name. Dave handled them well, but when I'd throw a combination to the body, he always reacted like it physically pained him.

I found it curious, as I'd never seen it a people(Samoans) have such uniform weakness before, so I decided to ask an assistant trainer in the house, a Bosnian gentleman of a particular bluntness, if I was seeing things, or if it was a random attribute with the pro's he'd assembled.

He told me that there was a root that they all eat, a staple in their diet, like potatoes in ours, that contributes to their build, stocky and built like a brick wall. It also damages their livers and kidneys over time. He told me that, while you have to watch the obvious strength and power that is also virtually uniform among native Kiwi's, you can also thunder them around the bread basket, and even if its not a terrific body shot, it'll hurt. Not in the traditional way, either; Apparently, more like 10 seconds of appendicitis then that lack of breath and constricted chest feeling of a good body shot.

I have no idea if he was bullshitting me or not, but he seemed like a straight shooting fellow, and this is how he explained my peculiar observation to me.

Yeah credit should go to Coppola!! He did an amazing job, not least in fighting so hard for Pacino. I wonder what happens to him if Francis lets the studio push him around? You got to believe the cream rises anyway. Have you seen De Niro auditioning for the part of Sonny?

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFDE7tqTx0I[/ame]

"He was brilliant, but it's a Sonny nobody ever could have loved."

Anyway, I don't really care about improvisation. Or I do, but it's a nice story to tell. "He improvised that." "No way!" That kind of thing. I'm more interested in how it works. The transition from king-killer to family-man is the most astonishing thing i've seen in pictures I think, and De Niro had the talent to make it happen - maybe others could have done it, but he did it.

I also admire Pacino's controlled decent from doe-eyed boy next-door to psychopath as much as what Brando did - i honestly think you could make a solid case for Brando's performance being the third best in the trilogy!
