Just curious if these guys existed. Can you think of anybody who tried to swarm his opponents and still managed to get into boring fights?
tyson managed 2do it with his constant clinching , it's not just ppl clinching him , he liked 2 use hopkinistic/markegianic tactics , even some of his not boring wins were ugly and dirty . frazier vs quarry , stander , chuvalo did not impress 2 much if 1 knows what happened (aware of what he watched) and against bonavena*2 he wasn't 2 exciting either , not 2 mention ali but that was also ali's fault .
Hatton, he produced constant pressure, but he didn't throw enough to actually be entertaining most of the time
Hatton was my first fight too. The Collazo, Tyszu and Mayweather fights were pretty good though. I never found Armstrong particularly exciting either
Hatton in many fights. A swarmer is boring if they clutch and hold a lot. Being a swarmer doesn't inherently make you an action fighter, just like being a counter-puncher doesn't automatically make you boring.
The problem with Hatton though was he was most usually undermatched, if he had been put in with Cotto, Witter, Harris, Judah, Corley, Bradley, they his fight's would not have seemed boring, those would be good fights win, lose or draw
Vito Autofermo was gutsy and aggressive but lacked the punch to truly generate any excitement although I admire the hell out of him as a warrior.
Hattons fight with Tszyu was awesome. Urango, not so much. The differing ingredient was the clinching.
Can't think of many overly boring Hatton fights, urango i'll have. I suppose it's about taste but i liked watching Hatton fight, catch the Ray Oliveria bout , Hatton showed excellent pressure fighting there.
I've been thinking a bit on this and I'm wondering if "swarmer" is the correct term to describe Vito. Yes he was always pressing and swarming but he was probably more of a spoiler really. I mean he made Hagler look terrible in their first bout like probably no one else did (having never seen the Monroe fight) and for a fighter of his limitations that's a bloody fair achievement. Although that fight is very hard and frustrating to watch for me.
