No version of Cotto , undefeated or not is going to trouble Mayweather, sad but true. Too methodical, average speed, mediocre chin, average puncher at 147 or 154 , leaky defense, crumbles under pressure and the list goes on. Solid B in my book but hyped way too much by HBO thru his career and he could never put the deed on the hype. I am convinced he will get stopped against Mayweather, the two beatings he received will become evident during the fight., he will go into a shell and Mayweather will walk him down around the 9th or 10th. As for the Pac reference, he looked damaged before Pac and he does not look much better now, healthier maybe but skillwise/fighting will be about the same, he lost confidence several times in the second Margo fight but Margo himself is done, I am sure he saw Cotto's wavering but just could not pull the trigger anymore. With all the Pac BS aside, it is at least a chance for Cotto to make some $$$$ and for FMJ it is a stay busy fight, it will sell and Cotto will bring in the Latin$$ and fanbase. Besides Pac and Martinez there is really no one else for Mayweather to fight unless one calls Berto and the other up and comers household names with $$ attached (but they have nothing going on with $$) and at that stage of the game the $$ is all that counts, that how Pro Sports work, if one does not like, just don't buy it.
It is quite laughable. All along Cotto has been been regarded as overhyped damaged goods that's being spoon-fed easy opposition since the Pacquiao loss.......and now that Floyd's picked him, he's all of a sudden the best he's ever been, and is the number one guy at his most natural weight (154) :huh.
You're just making stuff up now, aren't you? His legs were perfectly fine when he was trading with Pac in the first four rounds, and jumping on his bike in second half to survive. Cotto was perfectly fine that night. Stop discrediting Pac's win.
Surprised noone brought up that Cotto also pretty much had to train himself for the Pac fight. He will not be drained, have some confidence + have a good corner for the fight with Mayweather. Im not giving him much of a chance but i think there are some good odds that this version will be better than the version that fought Pac.
There's no argument for him being the best he's ever been. The damage sustained in the first Margo fight probably meant that the best Cotto was against Mosley (or around that time). But he is regarded as the number one guy at 154. And he's still got skills to boot. And he's more experienced and seasoned now. This is far from being a "joke" of a fight that some people are making it out to be. I'm quite interested, to be honest.
IMO Cotto has always been rated way to highly, watched him for many years at 140 with his shaky chin and was not impressed one bit. People wanted to believe that cotto could trouble mayweather as castillo did which was absurd, but I guess now we finally get to see it. Cotto is facing a version of mayweather that stands in front of you and fights, this version of mayweather is cotto's best chance of winning. The floyd that danced around the ring what have made him look silly. All that being said I expect floyd to pick him apart, I think floyd stops cotto with body shots.
Dont see what the big deal is, its pretty simple really. With the pac fight no longer happening it is only logical to choose the 3rd biggest draw around that weight. The landscape between 147 and 154 is pretty weak so not much of an option. Everyone crying and discrediting the fighters wont stop this fight from happening either. Floyd only has 4 professional rounds under his belt since he came back from Vacation, he's older and past his best also. People will continue to do this until pac and mayweather finally meet and what will be laughable is when this overhyped, overcooked fight actually takes place, it will quite possibly turn out to be a major stinker similar to DLH/Trinidad
I dont have to make anything up and I could care less if you agree or not. He looked as chinny as he did back in his 140 days. He has mentioned this before as well his manager Brian in the local media. Its only common sense that the catchweight was strategic because pac had no problems signing to fight at the limit after that.
A familiar tale for mayweather. Was that the reason why floyd fought baldomir instead of margarito then.
I don't think he's the best at 154, but I don't see why a Pacquaio loss would soften him up anymore than the Margarito loss would. He's certainly working with better trainers Roach 'He's working with a novice trainer who doesn't know what he's doing' Roach 'we want to weaken him' Cotto 'I'm not sacrificing my body for Pacquaio again' Make of it what you will, I don't think Cotto was completely drained but he was weakened by weight making, no one needs to discredit Pacquaio when Roach does the job just fine.
No, its not common sense. Its being deluded and looking for things that arent/werent there. Cotto also, in the run-up and aftermath of the fight, said he was ok with the weight and felt fine. So him mentioning the opposite to Brian, really doesnt mean much. All we can go on, is how he looked in the fight. And he looked as sharp as he did against Margarito in 2008 a time where nearly everyone agrees Cotto was at his best. The only difference against Pacquiao, however, was that Cotto was damaged goods by then, and reacted even worse to taking punches. Ive just bumped a thread in the immediate aftermath that was asking why Cotto lost, and not one person even mentions the weight. Everyone was pretty much in agreement that Pacquiao was just a beast that night.
Biggest advantage or difference between the two Cottos (Pac and Mayweather) is that this time around Cotto will have a legit trainer and not just a mitt holder. I don't give Cotto a high chance of winning, but then again his chances were never that high even prior to Margarito. Unfortunately, styles will always favor Mayweather. I give total credit to Pacquiao for beating Cotto two years ago. But I also take full consideration that Cotto danced to the wrong beat back then. The inexperienced corner had a major influence with that. I was highly surprised that he chose to try and bully Manny :huh
