i dont think oscar made a career high for fighting floyd, floyd made a career fight fighting him so 5 people that fought floyd made career high paychecks... what a shocker a guy out of argentina with 9 losses made more money fighting floyd than anyone else. a guy like JMM with 50 fights at featherweight...(not to many featherweights making 6 digit paychecks much less 7 digits
I can see this fight grossing over $100 million but have no idea what will get deducted from that figure to get to the number the fighters split; I can't imagine they split the gross. As a guy who works in finance and has been involved in some music festivals/concert promotions, I would love to see the inner workings of a big boxing match. Unfortunately, neither Top Rank nor Golden Boy are publicly traded companies, so they don't have to disclose things to the public.
According to "Floyd Almighty Himself", only the guaranteed purse listed with the Nevada Commission means anything. Let's wait and see what that figure is so we don't go against FAM.
I wouldn't doubt it. First and foremost Cotto deserves a huge payday. And of course in this particular negotiation, he did have some leverage. He was the only viable option for Floyd after Pacquiao. He also had a potential Pacquiao fight to dangle in front of Floyd. Trust me, as much as Floyd believes boxing is his own personal burger king...he sure didn't have it his way with Cotto.
ya this sounds too good to be true. But if it's true, then this is straight proof why Pac needs to "Be his own boss"
What is absolutely essential for this promotion is to somehow persuade the viewer that Cotto has a chance of upsetting Floyd. And I can't imagine a marketing genius who can come up with that. Maybe reports of Floyd heavily drinking to distract himself from the imminent jail time? Partying like there's no tomorrow? Breaking his leg in training and deciding to come out limping? And Cotto should release a super powers story how he can now punch through walls. Something similar to the one Sprott released before fighting Skelton: http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/s/2009490_boxing_electric_sprott_out_to_shock_skelton
being self-employed vs. employee, you will always make more money, Mayweather is probably showing Cotto the ropes, on how to get paid, can't hate on that. Cotto made the remark that TR would promote him until he retired, but then he becomes a free agent, starts talking with Money Team, starts negotiating with Money team, and now he is making more money than ever. Mayweather gave him some knowledge and now Cotto is about to be a boss.... I am not May fan, but I have alot of respect for what he is doing right now.
Yes, his bout against Casita was truly one for the ages, a memorable Career defining bout that elevated Fat Head amongst the greats.
