Why are there no fast Mexican fighters?

I think Mares is the fastest I have seen (hope he's mexican ... not sure off the top of my head), Sal's offense was NOT explosive quickness, he just threw short and tight with great balance. MAB and EM might be some of the quickest as far as throwing explosive fast twitch shots, with Tapia being a good call.

Yeah, it's the genetic predisposition to fast twitch muscle - there are very very very few Mexicans with even the classically chiselled physique, and it isn't because they don't train and work out - they do (though sometimes I think diet is to blame) a large part of it is just genetic. Lot's of endurance, though.

When I ran track in New Mexico I was a fast sprinter on a white and hispanic team.

When I moved to Viriginia, I was a mediocre at best sprinter on a predominantly black team.

I think Montiel and Mares are pretty damn fast...also prime erik morales, MAB and JMM are pretty fast...JMM didnt look slow with PAC on his last fight....Theres a video at youtube where MAB is hitting the mitts at big bear...Take a look at that speed...INSANE

ricardo lopez was fast, salvador sanchez was fast. hell, juan manuel marquez at 38 is pretty damn fast and he was fast as **** in his prime. chavez had some pretty good speed too, but i think that mexican fighters in general focus more on endurance and basic fundamentals rather then exploit the intangibles of their arsenal.

I personally know a dozen or more who have lightning speed. However, most Mexican boxers by training are counterpunchers. They time their opponents punches to counter their speed. Accurracy and Timing > than speed.

Those are three of the fastest guys of all time. If you're looking for that kind of speed, you're going to be excluding more than 99% of the boxers who have ever lived.

DLH in his prime had sick handspeed and was very agile on his feet too.
Ironically though, DLH was criticized by many Mexican fans for not fighting like a traditional Mexican for much of his career, and even started to look like a White Man after 2001. So perhaps he's not the best example. lol

Sal Sanchez when he wanted would lay some Leonard like combinations. Barrera in his comeback post Jr Jones when he became more technical was very fast. Even the banger that took on McKinnly was fast. Daniel Zaragoza wasnt slow neither was Finito. Morales and Guty Espadas Jr weren't slow. Prime Jorge Paez wasn't a slow poke. Currently Miguel Vasquez and Mares are faster than avg Mexicans, but then their style isnt your typical brawler either. Speaking of Paez his son Paez Jr has pretty fast hands too. And this is without mentioning Mexican Americans who mostly have a more Americanized style.

he looked great back then. now, he's lost a lot since he departed from the wildcard. last i saw him sparring mercito gesta...didn't look like the beast he was becoming prior to leaving. i watched him spar vernon paris and have his way with him. i think he had about 4 fights at that time. hopefully jr gets back on track. the kid has potential.
