Nice post except you said dislike modern boxing........the 1980s and 1990s were awesome in every weight class. Hatton was a good fighter not great and so was Joe Calazaghe. Only Lewis and Naz were all time greats from the UK in the last 20 years.
ahh sorry flea. floyd is a cherry picker though......imagine in the 80s...floyd would have waited untill the 1990s to fight duran, Leonard, hearns
and oscar de la hoya was not the number 1 light middleweight, he was ranked number 3 if i remember correctly.
I don't think he would've, it's this climate that allows him to do so, I think he would've been called on his bull**** and would've found waters too full of sharks to successfully navigate his way around them to fame and fortune. With same day weigh-in's for most of the 80s, you'd have to think he'd be at Welterweight by the late 80s. Moochy would've kicked his ass.
He'd come out of retirement and beat up Mayorga. Then fought Floyd. And what a brilliant performance from Floyd against a notorious stamina machine like Os...oh, no wait it was close, Floyd threw barely anything and looked clueless for portions of the fight.
The world was, but not the Mayweather fans. They just wanted what Mayweather wanted. When he said "No", they too said "No". When he said "I'm retiring, I've got nothing to prove", they too said "Yeah, he's done all that's needed to be done. Good call on retiring". When he called Cotto "damaged goods", they too said he was "finished and not the same". And then when he picks him and calls him a "hell of a fighter", yep you guessed, the fans said "Cotto is the best he's ever been". All fighters have a pathetic segment of fans, but the Floyd ones are quite easily the worse out there. Have no ability whatsoever to think for themselves.
