Depends on your definition of ATG. If ATG is "top 100 fighters of all time", then DLH should probably be there. If ATG is top 20 or 30, then he doesn't. What holds him back is that he's actually known more for LOSING his biggest, most defining fights than winning them. The only ATG I can think of who compares in that sense is Joe Frazier, but at least Joe won one of those defining fights. And personally, I have questions about how much of an ATG Frazier deserves to be considered.
Well lets take a look moron.. 1st fight he lost was against Trinidad, 7 years after becoming pro, after 15 title fights won, and the vast majority consider that fight a DLH victory. 2nd fight he lost was a close SD loss to Shane Mosley in an awesome war. 3rd fight was against Mosley again in a fight, 12 years fighting pro and 10 years as a champion 20+ title fights won, and again, the vast majority felt he won. 4th fight he lost was when he was at the end of his career at a weight he had no business fighting in against a P4P fighter. 5th fight he lost was against P4P#1 and DLH was way past his best. 6th fight he lost was against another P4P fighter, and Oscar was a shell of what he once was, and was weight drained to ****. So out of his 6 losses, 3 were at the end of his career, past his prime, 2 were clear robberoes, and one was in his prime in a close battle that ended up being a SD loss. Name me 3 fighters in the last 15 years with a better resume.
We're too quick to put the "Atg" label on any top fighter nowadays as weight jumping is overrated. Much more impressive to dominate a division fighting the best then seeking to get 1 major belt per any division you can just to claim to be a multi-titlist. Remember you don't have to tae challenges anymore to be a "champion" anymore. DLH may deserve to be an ATG though but he's no doubt going into the Hall and deserves to go.
the guy lost fights because he fought everbody and that makes him an atg to me easily.dela hoya could have been undefeated if he would have hand picked his fights and ducked people like these punks nowadays.
He for sure is one of the 100 greatest to ever lace them up I think people will debate for years about exact placement but I hope we can all agree on this at least
If you're going to play the "I don't really consider that a loss" game, I can play it too. He clearly lost to a past-prime Whitaker and Quartey. He also lost to Sturm. You can't be an ATG if you can't even beat your contemporaries. Mosley and Trinidad were his biggest contemporaries, and he went 0-3 against them. I don't give a **** whether YOU think they're losses. The greatest fighters don't leave doubts in their biggest fights. They up their game. You tell me with a straight face that DLH upped his game against Trinidad and this conversation is over. Name me another ATG who went WINLESS against his contemporary rivals.
