    Right. Quality post.

Care to elaborate? Or is it as simple as "he's not signed to fight him within 2 months of his last fight so it's a duck." to you.

Perhaps Ward wants Bute to fight out his contract with Showtime so they can take their fight to HBO where it'll be bigger? I don't see who Showtime's going to force Bute to fight in April? If Andre Dirrell is unwilling to fight him next and Hopkins is busy, they may not allow Bute to fight until summer or fall.

    Thank you kind sir.

To me it's pretty clear that this fight will happen. Just not as fast as we would like. Right now, it seems Ward is holding it up. But I understand why. Aside from making immediate money through a defense, this fight could stew and end up being a much bigger proposition down the road. (although I hope not PPV, that would suck).

I don't know Ward's contract situation, but I can also imagine that it may have some bearing on this decision. People forget these guys are in it to make money, and will do whatever they can to maximize their earning power.

They all do it. People are just being hypocritical if they think their fighter, whomever that may, be doesn't do the same. I am not a Ward fan, mind. I don't have a dog in this fight.

If we get to this point next year and Ward-Bute isn't set, then we can call it a duck, if the circumstances warrant it.

He still hasn't fought anyone, and his opponents were weak, yet he got KTFO.

He should look at whom he fought and go look who Ward fought. He a bum.

Well he backed out of the fight? What else can you call it? It's a duck but I cannot totally blame him at this point.

Bute vs Ward should be billed as "The Battle of the Homers".Neither one knows whats outside their own city's.

There was no fight set to back out of.

It's much too early in the game to start calling duck.

If Bute does fight a Froch or Kessler and beats them and then Ward signs on to fight him; What then? He ducked him before he beat a top level guy only to fight him after he'd beaten one? Does that make any sense?

Unless you think Ward has no intentions of ever fighting Bute, it makes no sense. And it's far, far too early to say that.

Des, how do you explain Ward's 180? Months ago he said the S6 champ should fight Bute for the Ring belt, now he's saying Bute doesn't qualify?!?

"Kessler needs to beat A level fighters like Jeff Lacy to prove his worth." - Joe Calzaghe

    :?

I know there's potential for more money to be made with Ward-Bute down the road, but why...

    A) is Ward dismissing the idea of fighting Bute based on opposition, instead of basing it on rest time or money?

    B) is Showtime reluctant to show a Bute-Froch fight considering Froch is "A level" as per Ward's assessment? (who was playing matchmaker after their fight)

I don't think that the fight will never happen but there's no reason to believe it will either. And the fight was "set", everyone expected the winner of the S6 to fight Bute even the Ward fans (of course now they are saying Bute doesn't deserve the fight). And lol at you for taking the "fight top level guy" excuse seriously.

I would love to see Mayweather, Bute and Ward to fight tough opponents away from home.........

    Reading between the lines.......
I think it's a bluff, a negotiating ploy. I also think it allows the fight to stew, make it more profitable, but also maybe allow them to take it to the highest bidder, or at least negotiate, instead of being under current contract constraints.

He didn't say that, did he? It's an example, no? Either way. There wsould be no difference. It all depends on how long it would have taken. He eventually did fight Kessler at Kessler's best.

    A)Again, I think it is a bluff.

    B) No idea. But as a guess? I think they want to be able to negotiate Ward-Bute on their own terms. Not the fighter's terms.

LOL at you for thinking I did. It's what he said. Not what I believe. I don't have a problem with him saying it, or feeling that Bute needs to ante up after a long tournament, but I don't think any fighter can tell another fighter who to fight.

The fight wasn't "set". If every fight that was talked about was set...............

A bum can be easily beat by Ward, it should be quite simple really... just take the bum out of the way. You'll shut the ones that say you duck him. Him the bum.
