What if Rahman would have defended against Tyson instead of the Lewis rematch?

He was on the slow side, but Lewis controlled Tyson with his jab with ease.

Lewis was a better fighter than Rahman, but they were very stylistically similar.

What Lewis could do, Rahman could do. Lewis just hit harder and had more tricks in his bag. They shared the thing that beat Tyson, though: A ramrod left stick and power. Tysons quick punching failed him utterly against Lennox, as he never effectively closed the distance.

Lewis was leagues quicker than Rahman especially with the jab. He could also put more than a jab and righthand together which Rahman really couldnt. Rahman had no timing skills, no uppercut or hook of substance, just a big strong one two guy.

Dont need a hook or an uppercut to beat this Mike.

A good jab and right hand with some strength and length would be just fine.

Yeah an early blow out aside, mike is getting battered by the jab of rahman.

Mike's size was an advantage in his early career.

I've rarely seen a heavyweight pass a jab like that. He could get low to the ground without fouling, twist, pivot, and it was HARD to hit him with single shots. You could hit him with combinations(Everybody did), but he could pass a jab something fierce, and his left hook following that trick was a stone cold killer.

But in his later career, when he would hang outside for long period, he struggled to land back for stretches. Him getting decisively outjabbed by a Holyfield who wasn't moving much and standing right in front of him giving battle show'd just how far his prowess for range-change had declined.

Well I disagree. Golota had an excellent jab and decent righthand. He was taller and probably a little better technically than Rahman too and Tyson found the mark pretty easily. In fact I would expect the fight to look very similar to that fight if Tyson came to fight. Once Tyson got close Rahman would flounder like Golota did.

Golota was crazy and had another meltdown.

Mike fought really well, but the fact that he was in with the most mentally fragile heavyweight of the era contributed. Golota quit; He was not knocked out. Ran from the ring with hot tears in his face after striking his trainer. Not the greatest example. Rahman had the better career for a reason.

Golota was hit and hurt badly, early by Tyson yet he still managed to do something Rahman was never able to do against a comparable opponent. Get up and keep fighting hard. He quit when he got the utter **** kicked out of him a round later. I don't know if Rahman would make it through that either.

Speaking of Hasim Rahman. He was dangerous enough that George Foreman sidestepped him in favor of fighting Shannon Briggs in 1997. The Rahman and Foreman camps had an agreement to fight, but then George changed his mind and fought Briggs instead!

Rahman would have beaten Foreman because he could box and move at the very same pace Moorer could.
Briggs wasn't much of a boxer at all and he still almost pulled it off.

Yes.. Rodriguez took the first round against Holyfield at Caesar's outdoor tahoe, but in the second round, Evander landed a right hand off the forehead that put Adilson flat on his back. Rodriguez won the first round against Foreman, but was hammered in the second. Angelo Dundee was interviewed after the fight. He said that when he talked to Rodriguez inbetween rounds, Adilson said " I blocked one of his punches, and it felt like he took my arm with it. "

Clifford "The Big Red Dog" Ettienne is not a good contender at all, But he did whup Lamon "Bear" Brewster by WIDE UD in 2000. Now Brewster WAS a v.good B-Grader Contender who KTFO Wladdy for teh WBO in 2004 And KTFO Andy Golota in 2005. Now m8, can you name 10 boxers [not including rematches] who were clearly a class above Ettienne, what Tyson beat?? :think

    Foreman Hooooooooooooooooooooooooook!:smoke
