What if Rahman would have defended against Tyson instead of the Lewis rematch?

He was freaking out in the locker room pre-fight.

The man was set to fall apart before the first bell rang.

depends how rahman would do in the early rds, if he were to survive, he could pull out a decision, but if not, then of course light out. by that time tyson was washed up so rahman winning wouldnt be a shock.

Let's be frank here, after flattening lewis, rahman beating anyone wouldn't have been a big shock.

Like I said last time this was discussed.

Tyson would probably be motivated for this. If not, the slow Rahman is still a sitting duck for Mike's overhand right. Tyson pulls the Oleg and gets Rahman out of there early to mid rounds.

But he didn't. He really never had another meaningful win.

That was the Lewis fight. He actually made a pretty good account for himself in the first couple rounds against Tyson.

Tyson wins about four of the first six rounds, then gasses out. This concludes in Rahman stopping him anytime after the eighth. By 2001,Tyson was only effective in the short term.

Tyson wouldn't need long to find a home for his right hand.

Lennox Lewis needed to be more or less at his absolute best to knock Rahman out with a big right hand, and it was the kind of long range shot that Tyson couldn't dream of throwing in 2001.

People are saying Tyson by early KO, but there's nothing to suggest that he would.
He hadn't knocked any serious opponent out early in over 5 years, and that was Bruno.
In the meantime he'd declined even more markedly.

Tyson was just totally finished by 2001, that's all there is to it. Totally gone, mentally and technically.
Rahman was never great, but he was decent, and strong and hungry, and 2001 was his peak year.

Tyson hit Golota with all kinds of long right hands. Dropped him with one.

- Yeah...only an all time great at his absolute best is landing a "short" right on Rahman.

-A rusty poor version of Tyson found Botha with a perfect short right. And as mentioned he found the right against Golota around this time.

Those punches don't compare to the punch Lewis needed to put Rahman down for keeps.

Not to mention this was around the time Rahman was training with Adrian Davis. The brilliant trainer that was teaching his fighters to stick both their arms out when an opponent was moving in. It rendered them defenseless and caused Rahman to get brutally knocked out by Lewis and William Joppy to get blasted out by Tito Trinidad.

Yeah sure. Youre seriously overrating Rahmans chin. It wasn't that good.

How about the Oleg short right hand KOs sandwiched inbetween this miraclious feat from the one and only Lennox Lewis?
