The nine winners from last year all won again, that's impressive!

Something else isn't he Elvis? Doesn't come across the same on telly. He made Egan look like a novice at times and at other times made him look like a young boy - he just bullied him

He let Kenny survive the last round, I'd say he was told not to KO him going into the 3rd coz he well could. What a performance. McDonagh is really horrible to watch but good for the computer scoring. We could well have another 4 or 5 going to London:bbb

Everything you say is bang on, the only thing that puzzled me is that Joe didn't (want to?) stop Kenny who went down bravely.

    My take on the finals;

was really up again it with Myers, his work rate kept him in it against the quality
shots from Myers but Paddy's desire and fitness won the day.

won a torrid affair against Phelan, some big shots from both and fair play to Chris but Conlon while good has boxed better. Watch him for the Olympics, he's our dark horse.

was an animal against his cousin, unusually aggressive and sitting down on his shots, corner or ref should have rescued the young lad IMO. Nevin for me the slightly unsung star of Irish men's boxing.

boxed the best tactically of the night, nullifying DOJ by covering up, keeping him off balance with jabs or movement and when he had to, he stood and traded well. Great performance from our most unappreciated young fighter, tough on David, looks like no Olympics for a man of his talents. Great fight.

has boxed better but still some sublime moments from him with his speed and evasiveness. Tough on Moylette, maybe he should not have entered the Seniors, with his style all based on timing he has to be right. Hickey deserves his cahane now and the qualifiers is tough with only one place, but Ross could do it.

from the first round against O'Reilly but for me this could have gone eitherway. JJJ was deservedly down two going into the last round but for me JohnJoe won the last, the question was by how much. Any of Nolan, Joyce, Quigley, Sheehan, McLaughlin or O'Reilly could represent us well here. Fair play to Adam, to win two in a row at 69 is a fair accomplishment.

l got a WO and with respect to young Coyle, he would have taken it anyway. His win over Cummings was a war and Darren deserves his days in the sun.

-Egan fight, I thought Egan might have pulled it off but he was as just sais "bullied", I don't think that even at his best Kenny could have beaten Joe, and I admire Egan big time.

did his stuff, he continues to impress at Super, and Turner is no flat either. Con can qualify, I think.
Finally the fight of the night might have been the girls 57 kg, Walsh v's Duffy, great skill and intensity.

I think I'm going to second Egan's plan to lump a few bob on him to win a medal at the Olympics. And all credit to Egan who couldn't be more gracious in defeat. He knew he was in against a lad who's special.

You reckon he could have stopped Kenny too Matt? It seemed that way at times indeed. Was there maybe still a bit of fear that if he let loose he could be caught on the counter by Egan? Seems unlikely, as Egan didn't really hurt him at any stage, but maybe his coaches were saying to him "your winning handy so don't do anything stupid at the risk of being caught". Maybe not the case, but it's just a suggestion.
As a boxer Ward doesn't seem to have much mercy for his opponent, so I wouldn't say he felt in any way sorry for Egan as the fight was going on. To be honest, it ultimately puzzled me too!!

I think McDonagh is a bit more entertaining than last year though. Once or twice going forward last nite we saw his speed, but overall he just perfectly suits the computer scoring. I do think that he's getting less negative as time goes by though

Matt you're on the ball, that women's fight might just have been the best of the night. I thought Duffy was hard done by though!!

Ward couldn't have stopped Egan last night; he was completely gassed in the 3rd.

    Barnes
    Phelan
    JJ Nevin
    McDonagh
    Hickey
    Nolan
    Ward
    McCarthy
    Sheehan....

Phelan - damn. In all fairness I knew it was a risk but wanted to have called it had the upset happened if you get me! anyone get the lot? Red corner all the way. Joe was sensational, the good news is he's improved on last year and not rested on his laurels. Egan's a great champion and always will be. Someone said Joe was disrespectful by saying 'boxing is a young man's game' but I think he's right. That speed, ferocity, intensity, was impossible to match by Egan's guile, skill and cunning.

He could have stopped him in the second and the ref wouldn't have been strung up for it. Agree he was bollixed in the third though.
