At HW I think it´s between Aerts(3 time champion), Hoost(3 time champion), Remy (3 time champion) and Schilt(4 time champion).....then you have Andy Hug, Branko Cikatic, Mike Bernardo, Francisco Filho, Glaube Feitosa, Mark Hunt, etc....

I didn't initially take the thread to be looking for the ATG. But rather the ATGs.

Either way, Stan was ****ing amazing, and won something like 8 world titles. I'll never forget him breaking Dennis Alxios's leg right at the start of their bout >>>

My bad attempt at an ATG joke.

I think I can see my head in that vid! I was sitting four rows back with Dennis' back to me when he dropped - was such a let down to the massive hype!

I think it helps that we can fly over to thailand in only a few hours and train there...Have done so myself..Also muay thai..is pretty big here in oz compared to most other western countries..Our promoters can bring over the top thai fighters to fight our best regularly..

Mate Sapp was a unknown qauntity back then and prettymuch used his giant size and clubbing punches to swarm Hoost...

Hoost, Aerts and Semmy are pretty much locked in as the top 3, just depends on who you prefer really. From there you have guys like Bonjasky, Hug, Le Banner, Bernardo, Hari etc.

Also, check out the '99 GP if you haven't, best Grand Prix in my opinion, it's all on youtube.

It was a much hyped fight, and to his credit Alexio tried to fight on. But his leg was absolutely buggered.

Hug v Hoost was KI's version of Hagler v Hearns, only someone forget to tell them there should be a KO ending. One of the best 2 man wars ever staged in a ring :good

Have been re-watching, and also watching some for the first time, the Andy Hug vids on youtube. Hug was an absolute warrior, and is apparently the only K-1 fighter ever to be rewarded an honorary samurai title by K-1 founder Kazuyoshi Ishii.

The Hoost/Hug fights were definitely wars but maybe too technical to be called the "K-1 Hagler/Hearns", that title would be more fitting on crazy brawls like Zambidis/Chahid or the Hunt/Le Banner series :good.

I'm more familiar with full contact kickboxing which ironically only used kicks above the waist. However the fighters that crossed over well into oriental rules involving kicks to the legs were Benny the Jet Uriquidez, Rick the Jet Roufus, Maurice Smith, and Don The Dragon Wilson. With the exception of Mo Smith they all suffered losses to muay thai fighters before they learned to adapt properly to leg kicks. Maurice of course went on to win the UFC HEavyweight Championship in MMA.
