    All the best heavyweights with power had one thing in common: a predatory mind-set. For all their advantages in size, skill, etc., the Kilts think safety first. A string of crushing one, two and three round kayos instead of boring 12-0 decisions would have made all the difference in the world.

    Yes. He easily beat Kirk Johnson to get a rematch with Lennox & Lennox retired. The number 2 WBC ranked guy was Sanders & they fought for the Ring Magazine Championship and Vitali stopped him in a brutal one sided fight.

    For the slow folks:

    Vitali was rated number 1 when Lewis retired. Lewis held the WBC belt so that's where the lineage lies, not with the other belts at the time.

    The WBC had Sanders arnked #2 when Sanders dropped the WBO belt. The WBC didn't rank Byrd at all since he held some other belt, the IBF.

    BYrd din't have the lineal title - period. Game over, thanks for playing.
