Does anyone else think that Quigg has a pretty unusual style. I mean it work for him and he is still a wicked fighter so I'm certainly not bashing him. However, he stand pretty square on. I think that's why he was open to that straight left down the centre last night. I like how he keeps his hands high, but he kind of holds his elbows quite forward leaving his sides exposed. I feel if you look at how Frampton stands and delivers shots it is quite obvious who has the extensive amatuer pedigree. I'm a little concerned that quiggs technical flaws may hold him back at the higher level Just a thought I was having while watching his fight last night. What do you guys think? Cheers
I can see quigg turning out like John Murray, euro level which is pretty good but will never beat any of the top names in his division,Frampton is too classy for him and i think would stop him,Frampton will atleast hold a version of a world title..
said similar in another thread that he fights far too square on which leaves him open to straight shots. Last night finally convinced me that Frampton beats him.
He's decent - good puncher, nice when he's on the attack, but I think he'll struggle with anyone who has the skill to offset when he punches.
Has a nice array of punches for a British fighter firstly, Not many put shots together that well nowadays over here IMO. Problems he has.. -Shoulders to squad, needs to rotate the left shoulder a bit more to lessen target. -No head movement at all, pressure fighters all know to do. -Needs to feint a bit more to set shots up. -No angles in his work other then him creating them via leverage. -Walks down fighters in straight lines. -There's a wide seam through his gloves, i believe if fighters keep using straight punches he will struggle. -Open to body shots due to stance and having high hands. A good fighter but could be a lot better if he implemented even a tiny bit of the above. Positives from last night: -Found a way to win -Ability to swing fight around -Composure -Stopped a tough lad I didn't like the way he relied on all out pressure and strength to get job done at domestic level. Early shades of John Murray IMO.
All of this. Alot of people are jumping on Quigg a bit too much. He's only just had his second fight of real importance and showed alot of the characteristics needed to be a successful champion. He's only 23 and to say he had a virtually non existent amatuer career he is clearly a quick learner and very talented. There are question marks and people did go overboard after the Booth fight but he still has a very bright future. If i was his promoter i would take baby steps, even a rematch with Arthur would be good viewing. Put it this way, he may be flawed and a bit raw, but he's going to give us some exciting nights throughout his career.
I think that he is an obvious talent and certainly has the strength and character to become a champion. Problem is he needs to picked up on his technical flaw and picked up now whn he's young. Joe Gallagher maybe a great conditioner but cannot teach basics. My amatuer coach would have been all over me for having a stance like Quigg.
Think he's tremendously strong but two things will lead to Frampton beating him. His panic under fire, and his elbows flaring out. He's a top prospect - sensational even given his background but for all his talent I think that when he fights someone capable of putting him under pressure he's going to struggle. The punch that floored him Vs Arthur was a jab. He was sensible in taking the 8 count etc, but the worry I have is he didn't see it coming. Indeed he was hit with a similar shot the round before. Regarding the above post and Joe Gallagher not being able to teach the basics- utter bollocks. Joe's a top trainer but people have frailties- its inherent in learing a skill that some area's are going to be stronger then others. There's a weakness in Quiggs defence and I think that will take some ironing out - that said he's still a tremendous fighter and I wouldn't miss one of his fights now.
Quigg lost strategically. He only has himself to blame. He started slow and let his rangier opponent get his timing and distance. What was he doing boxing. If he'd put it on Arthur from round 1, I don't know if we'd be discussing anything other than Quigg winning another destruction job. Quigg let Arthur into the fight way more than was needed. Seems the kd woke him up, he went to work and I guess we all think that Arthur was en route to a beat down.
