Gotta love Billy. One of Britain's premiere trainers coming on a boxing forum to troll. Imagine Alex Ferguson popping on to have at the Man City fans.
Just stating fact mate! letting you fans know the truth basically.Once Ricky beats Moises in sure Kevin will be next then Ricky should be allowed to unify the title before moving up to LWW
Burns beating Rios? Come on that's a step too far now... I think Burns will beat Mitchell, obviously not the "well prepared" Mitchell because he's a destroyer of world's as we all know, but if Burns v Mitchell happened, i'd back Burns
I really need to stop posting on forums when I'm pissed But what "logic" is this? everybody loves Michael Katsidis and we can all harp on about the class he's mixed in, but he lost those fights at the top level and in my opinion you don't need to be a "jock" or some kind of savant to notice that Burns at his best is better than Katsidis at his best (or "past it" or "shot" as some, of course, said after the fight). my major concern was the step up in weight, Katsidis was a puncher at a higher weight class and ricky was put down early against martinez, so there was thta niggling feeling of "how will he handle lightweight, and how will he handle the power early?" then when he went in there he looked ****ing massive compared to katsidis you would honestly think in the lead up to the Katsidis fight that Burns was steve robinson and katsidis was prince naseem, the negativity and defeatism around here was astounding, I even started to doubt myself seeing as it was apparently a foregone conclusion around here that ricky was going to get blown and it was only a question of "can he last 4 rounds or 5?"
I thought the fact the Katsidis had mixed at the top level for years would tell, I also thought the fact that Burns run of fights against the likes of Cook and Laryea would work against him as I though they were pointless fights and Burns would not have learnt enough from them, anyway its old news now, Burns proved me wrong and fair play to him.
yeah those fights didnt do him any favours its true, also I forgot that Kevin Mitchell getting his head almost knocked off in 3 was still relatively fresh in people memory
Yeah the Mitchell fight was part of my thinking if Im honest. At that point in time I rated Mitchell higher than I did Ricky, that opinion has changed though.
Mitchell's was pushed back and I'm not saying he wasn't fit. Fitness and sharpness are not the same thing it's like fitness and match fitness in football. Reflexes, getting accustomed to the punches coming at you and absorbing them etc. It was his second day sparring, Ricky looked in awesome condition and had been sparring for a fair bit longer than that. Doesn't mean the outcome would have been any different but that is the truth.
Fair enough though he had been in camp for longer. I understand what you mean about six weeks before the fight but Mitchell's performance against Murray didn't suggest a lack of fitness. How closely do you thin sparring performance resembles what would happen in a fight generally I mean, not just in this case?
