Clottey by a point. If you hold everyone's record to how you score the fights (at least that you've seen), which I think is relevant to a large extent, Cotto is 36-3 to me because of this.

His career low stretched from half way through the Margarito fight through the time off from the Pacquiao beat down. His career high is Quintana through Gomez. Oddly enough, I rank his highs and lows consisting of his entirety of 9 fights at welterweight. Big drop off, somewhat padded but smooth recovery.

 

Come on. Clottey isn't active enough. He will continue to lose fights we all expect him to win

But it was a close fight, i have no problems with people giving it to Clottey.

 

I gave Cotto either 11 or 12, I can't remember off hand, and it was what won him the fight in my book. 114-113 Cotto.

Clottey isn't busy enough at 147, where he is bigger than most. Don't know if anything would change at 154. It's a shame too, because to me he could clearly be a force at either weight.

That's how I see it too. Clottey really could have put it away too. He let it slip away more than Cotto took the fight, despite Cotto battling thru the cut.

114-113 Cotto. I think he would have cruised the fight had it not been for that horrendous cut, but he really struggled because of it and it was only because of Clottey fading in the late rounds that won it for Miguel. It was a ****ing dirty fight, Clottey kept leaning in with the head trying to open up the cut more, whilst some of Cottos shots were straying low, plus that crazy slam he did in the 5th (Clottey made an absolute meal of it though).

That was my thoughts as well.

Poster said Clottey was effectively aggressive...

Clottey has a propensity for going into a shell ...he is just not a hungry fighter.
He got beat by a one eyed fighter...had he not headbutted it would have not even been that close.
Before the cut Clottey was not landing the rights!!!

 

Can't remember my exact scorecard (would have to re-watch), but I had Cotto by a point or so.

This is an underrated fight in terms of the damage it did to Cotto, combined with the Margo loss (and also underrated in terms of the action). I believe a pre-Margo Cotto beats Clottey comfortably. A tough fight, but a clear win.

2008-2009 was a bad time for Cotto.

Has he rebuilt himself since? Who knows? But he's done the best he could. New weight, new trainer and a new attitude.

Here's hoping he can put in a good performance against Floyd.

Pretty silly, considering the fight was close as hell. A point or two either way.

But you're probably trying to discredit Cotto as Floyd's next opponent, so all the power to you.

No doubt 2008-2009 was a bad period for Cotto.

That was 3 years ago however. Could he have recovered? Maybe. Not prime, no way, but don't underestimate an experienced, seasoned veteran with skills to go along with it.

I expect you believe that if Floyd doesn't win every second of every round it's an unimpressive win. True?

Or would you be impressed with a dominant 9-3 type decision to Floyd?

 

I can't remember my exact score, but I had Cotto winning by one point. Clottey threw it away in those championship rounds.
