[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDDy4QlTTkQ&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLE1210CCDD2F69992[/ame] Man this dude is all ****ed up. He was not a bad heavy at all, what are your guys thought about him?
Good insights. He obviously had a lot of love for boxing. It made somebody of him, for a while at least. But yeah .. kids, stay off the crystal meth. :deal
Ive always liked Morrison, hes one of those whats ifs, i think with a better coach, he could have done a lot better. The Bent and Mercer losses were easily avoidable. Lewis still would have whooped his ass. To me, he was like the real, white Mike Tyson (Sorry Chagaev). And he had that awesome power.
Morrison could punch, but he didn't quite take it as well as he could dish it out. Interesting stuff he's saying about boxers being conditioned to take a punch. Some people don't understand that. You can do all the exercise in the world, develop muscles all over the place, and have yourself a 22 inch neck - if you haven't been hit before, you're not going be able to take it. I mean, even if you physically take it and stay upright and clear-headed and essentially unhurt, you're going to be stunned in a kind of emotional way, confused or angry. That's just natural. It takes time to learn to take 'em in your stride.
He had a pretty good trainer and manager. I dont think he could have done much better. He was brought along as a puncher not a boxer. He had serious mental stamina problems and a suspect chin. I think he accomplished a lot for what he was. The Bentt fight could have been avoidable but not sure about Mercer, he was going to be there for the course and Morrison would always wear out and become more susceptible to be taken out. The Ruddock fight was my favorite of all his fights. I didnt think Morrison had a chance in hell.
Morrison needed somebody watching out for him more. Obviously he has trouble making decisions. He surrounded himself with too many "yes" men.
I always liked his attitude in post fight "in the ring" interviews. He always said "us and we", he understood that the people surrounding him were important. When he stuck to his fight plan he was very good. trying to knock out Mercer was a bad move... at that point Mercer had not proved just how great his chin was. The Bentt fight was crazy. he would have never beat Lewis.
Tommy was a good fighter with a lot more potential. Just didn't have the right mgmt......and couldn't say no to the ladies.
What was wrong with his management ? I thought they did a great job with him. Wasn't he with Bill Cayton ?
Yes and his trainer was Tom Vergets who was really concerned about Morrison because of all the partying and reckless behavior. Vergets got him to move to a farm in the middle of nowhere but Morrison still ****ed up.
Too much "Oklahoma" in Morrison. Maybe Barry Switzer could have kept him under control....otherwise it's almost an impossible task.
