Paulie Malignaggi afraid to leave the USA and fight in Ukraine

There have been reports today Paulie Maligfaggi has turned down the fight with Vyacheslav Senchenko for the WBA welterweight title.

Although Senchenko holds the title, and his promoter won the purse bid, Maligfaggi refuses to accept a big payday in Ukraine, and was demanding the fight take place in the USA.

But titleholders who go to the USA to defend have often run into unfair officiating from referees (Zaveck-Berto, Kessler-Ward) and other fighters from foreign countries have been robbed on the scorecards by American judges (Lara-Williams, Matthysse-Judah, Matthysse-Alexander, Kotelnik-Alexander) so Senchenko would need to be a fool to defend his title on a Golden Boy card in America.

I wish he'd agree to the fight. Rather than, what? Continuing to fight the Jose Cotto and Orlando Lora's of the world?

Having said that, I understand where he's coming from in being an extreme boxer and trying to get a decision in the Ukraine against their champ as well as the other option of being able to get the on TV undercard for two major PPV's a year with Golden Boy.

never have i seen so many challengers turn down title shots . all because they dont like the stipulation that the challenger has to travel...wow...big demand

 

I've never seen a robbery or a gift decision in Ukraine.

I thought the Ukrainian Stanyslav Kashtanov clearly deserved a decision win over Karoly Balzsay, but the judges were too kind to the visiting boxer and gave Balzsay a SD win.


I've seen MANY robberies and in the US, far more than in any other country in the world.

 

Why do any of you keep on talking about Malignaggi? He's a waste of time. Who cares about that loud mouth egotistical fool. He ain't ****. Afraid to leave the USA? *****! He sure is confident of a win isn't he. Paulie the scared little girl. Please go away forever. You wer never any good. Ha ha ha ha.

 

Malignaggi probably realises that he would have zero chance of winning in the Ukraine. No chance of a stoppage, no chance of winning on the cards (whether he deserves to or not).

It's surprising that anyone travels anywhere nowadays with the amount of home cooking going on all over the world. Everywhere is at it, without exception.

 

That I would like to see. I did not see a headbutt causing it, and I can´t find a fight review that mentions it from being from anything else than punches :think

 

I would be wary too. Not like Senchenko has left his home country...EVER(and no I am not counting Russia). Malignaggi isnt a KO fighter and like the Diaz fight he just wnats teh best chance for a fair shake. I can see why he is a bit apprehensive.

 

Because the most fights happen in the US and, particularly, the biggest and most watched fights generally happen in the US. Compared to how few fights happen in Ukraine.

And I've never heard anything about corruption in Ukrainian boxing, just saying that it is a legit concern in the sport no matter what.
