Senchenko is a B level fighter at best anyways. if Malignaggi can get a better offer somewhere else I would pursue that.

Name ONE robbery you've seen in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Stas Kashtanov lost Donetsk to visiting Hungarian Karoly Balzsay by SD in a WBA "world" title fight.

I thought the home fighter Kashtanov deserved to win, and the judges were too kind to visiting Balzsay.

 

Most people probably can't name one fight they've seen in the Ukraine. Heck, I'm not sure I've seen any other than Senchenko-Nuzhnenko. There just aren't enough fights there for there to be any real sample size.

 

That's not true, there are big boxing cards in the Ukraine virtually every week now, often with either K-2 or UBP as the promoter. Off the top of my head, I can easily name over 50 fights I've seen in the Ukraine, most during the past couple of years.

Some good ones include Bursak-Vera, Bursak-Hammond (flawless performance), Fedchenko-Corley, and Balzsay-Kashtanov.

But unlike many people, I follow boxing all over the world, not just in the USA.

It would be extremely naive to think that the Ukraine would be any different to Russia, Germany or anywhere else in the world with regard to hometown decisions. UBP won a very high purse bid and are obviously desperate to keep the WBA title on Senchenko, eyeing big future fights and revenues. They're not about to risk having those future revenue streams disappear.

That's probably why they are so keen on getting Malignaggi over - a bit of a name who has zero chance of stopping Senchenko, so they're able to guarantee a successful defence. I'm not saying the Ukraine or UBP are particularly bad for it, just the same as everyone else. From a business perspective, they would be absolutely foolish not to do it.

Corruption is rife in all walks of life. Especially boxing.
