Obv Mayweather and Pac are 1 and 2 (either order) followed by Sergio. Thats the top 3 p4p guys that could potentially fight each other.

When before in the past have p4p ranked fighters been in the same division or close too the same division and actually fought each other?

    Legit question.:think

Nah, he wasn't even top ten or just made it according to most lists.

The only reason this was believed was because they played the build up as if hatton won he would automatically jump to no1. in reality Pacquaio and Marquez and the possibility of Calzaghe and Hopkins would all have still been ahead of him if he won.

yeah but he wasn't no1 otherwise Juan would have been no3 at the time. was mosley still even ranked at that time, he hadn't fought in like 18 months.

    No.

In the last 30 or so years, I think the only times it's happened were Leonard-Hearns I and Whitaker-Chavez. Some people had Hopkins and De La Hoya 1-2 when they fought as well, but that wasn't the consensus IIRC.

At the end of 1996, this is how The Ring had the top p4p list

    Jones
    DLH
    Whitaker
    Tito

I'm not sure exactly what they had it going into Oscar and Pernell's April fight. They may have dropped Roy after his DQ loss to Griffin, which was in March 1997.

Then again, they probably dropped Pea after his poor showing in early 1997 against Hurtado.

    He was 8th.

Going into the Pacquiao fight, he was 10th.

They did drop Jones after his DQ loss and had Oscar as number 1 for a good while after that. Most fans still had RJJ as P4P number 1 though.
