It is to be expected, imo

Imagine the strain on your body if you had to put 20 lbs overnight, that alone sounds tough and dangerous, and this guy has to fight 12 rounds on top of that. Sounds like a nightmare. If anything, I'm surprised with Chavez' still having enough strenght and enough tank to pull a win in such conditions, specially against someone as tough as Rubio

Perhaps.. but then that begs the question why he still appeared to be strong and had stamina remaining right up to the end of the fight, doesn't it? :think

Imo he was struggling in the last two rounds, like he had little in the tank left. he also looked like he didn't have the same power and stamina he usually does, he was able to outmuscle Rubio because of the size advantage, but his punches didn't look like they were doing much damage to Rubio (although they looked more effective than Rubio's punches)

i do think chavez is a better fighter than people give him credit for.
he's good to watch, gets hit a bit and gets involved in some exiting fights.
he's also a real fighter, thats in his DNA, when he's up against it, he digs in and guts out a win.
i think junior's gonna surprise a lot of people in the near future.

Anyone who thinks Chavez would beat Martinez, just watch the Zbik fight. Zbik isn't at Martinez' level and he still gave Chavez all he could handle in a close fight. Chavez is so easy to hit, and not just with single shots either. Was eating combinations all night in that fight. Martinez would absolutely destroy him. Now that he's widely suspected of using diuretics to make 160, I expect him to move up soon. At 168, with the weight advantage gone, he'd be picked apart by any decent technical fighters at the top level.

No, aside from him being protected, fighting numerous bums and getting gift decisions, failing previous drug tests and walking out of recent ones, using diuretics to dehydrate and then rehydrate to over a stone past the weight limit, his style is incredibly boring, bend at the waist, bully opponent with size weight advantage while throwing body hooks to tire them, repeat x 50

Hope someone starches him really quickly, spoiling, spoiled brat

It won't be for at least another year when Arum, Sulaiman, et. al. are assured Martinez is on the decline and Chavez has every advantage in the book. In that situation, people will be completely justified in not attaching a great deal of significance to such a victory.

I've defended him repeatedly. Sure he's limited but if he wasn't called Chavez he wouldn't have half the haters he does have.

Kinda Boring to watch, ugly style, he's decent, but nothing compared to Mexico's top fighters in terms of excitement, Marquez vs Katsidis alone is far superior to Chavez jr's entire career in terms of excitement. Margarito and Suegura put fights 10x more exiting than Jr's whole career, but I hope he improved, and maybe moved up to 168 where he belongs. Jr. vs Bute, Jr. vs Andrade, Jr. vs Froch sound very good.
