Primo Carnera vs Tony Tucker

Tucker did beat Eddie Lopez and Jimmy Young, albeit old versions of them.

 

The Douglas that Tucker beat would box circles around Carnera.

 

bottom line is tuckers record was only 50-50 with pros anyone had heard of. known fighters Tucker beat represent a smaller percentage of his overall record than carneras.

chuck wiggins beat jack renualt and larry gains yet Carnera knocked him out. bud gorman beat jack sharkey and tony galento yet carnera knocked him out. vitorio campolo was another rated fighter carnera knocked out. respected rated fighters primo beat on points were laughran, maloney and mcCorkindale.
Jack gross was 40-3-1 when carnera knocked him out. You add wiggins,gorman,campolo, laughran, maloney, mcCorkindale and gross to sharkey, neusel, godfrey,uzcudun and schaff its obvious carnera did a lot more as a fighter than Tucker ever did.

 

I agree. He fought in a better era. Even his tomato cans were of a higher level.

 

Also, given the shaky chin of Carnera, I wouldn't be surprised if Buster dropped him multiple times with his ramrod jab, like in Douglas-Williams.

 

Young was abysmal by that stage.
Lopez wasn't anything special.
Carnera beat plenty of men like that.

wiggins,gorman,campolo, laughran, maloney, mcCorkindale, gross, sharkey, neusel, godfrey, stribling, uzcudun and schaff were fights carnera won. its obvious carnera did a lot more as a fighter than Tucker ever did looking good losing.

 

Broad was an overweight fringe contender at best. Tucker didn't impress in that one.
Douglas was the first real contender he fought.
Yes, he went the distance with Tyson, lost by quite a margin, as did Tillis and Green.
I thought 5'10 light-punching Norris actually beat Tucker. A draw would have been generous enough to Tucker.
McCall fight I didn't see.

Carnera beat Lasky, Schaaf, Sharkey, Loughran, Uzcudun, Levinsky, Neusel and some has-beens .... maybe not an awful lot better than Tucker's resume, but as I said IF Carnera is a joke, Tucker is a bigger one ...

Carnera is still very underrated, he had some good skills for a big man and was always in condition, he lost to some of the best punchers of all-time

 

Though I would pick Eddie Gregory and Jordan Keepers over him, I have no era bias.

I like Jack Sharkey quite a bit, if that puts me in your prayers.
