Its all in hindsight; depending how you view the fighters when Floyd actually fought them. Cotto may not be in his prime, but he has got to be top 3 opponent for Floyd. Ortiz, please! This guy cracked against Floyd because this was his first mega fight. Cotto has been here plenty of times and maybe past his prime is a seasoned vet in the game with tons of experience. Mosley, c'mon. You want to talk about prime, this guy has not fought the same since he got caught using illegal substances. Margo and an old washed up version of Mayorga are the only fighters Mosley has beat since being caught. Cotto definetely has proven he is not washed up or SHOT! Maybe past his best but still plenty of fight in that dog.
Floyd fans are the funniest. They love to hide behind BS ranking and "lineal" championships and often fail to acknowledge reality. (For the record I'm not Pac fan either). DHL was washed up and past his prime when Floyd fought him. He was 2-2 in the 4 fights prior to the Mayweather fight and should have been 1-3 as many believe he lost to Sturm, and he went on to struggle with Steve Forbes before being completely destroyed by Pac. In actuality DHL was in the middle of a 1-6 stretch that led to his retirement when Floyd fought him. He was no where near his prime. Mosley was a shot fighter when Mayweather fought him. Still a dangerous fighter who had the speed and power to change a fight, but he was 36 years old and is the same guy went on to draw with Sergio ****ing Mora 4 months later. I don't care what his bull**** rankings were. Hatton was a joke of a fight at 147 as in most peoples eyes Hatton lost to Collazo at 147 6 months before and did nothing after leaving the comforts of the euro level fighters he was facing in the UK), Floyd fought a very good Corrales and very good Castillo and those two alone may be better on his resume than this version of Cotto, although Cotto over his career was the more accomplished and better fighter of the three. Those of you naming DHL, Hatton, and Mosely are just clear floyd fans with no ability to remove yourself from his fan club and provide an unbiased opinion.
:good Floyd fans just dont want to admit that one of Pacquiao's 'leftovers' is one of the best opponents Mayweather's faced.
Cotto is a legit 3 weight world champ who will go down as a great. Floyd should win but its a legit fight at Cottos weight.
Cotto will never be a great. Everyone of his titles is a paper belt, never won one off a legit champ.
tbh, at 154 the dela hoya floyd faced was better than the present cotto. difference is floyd has gone downhill as well.
Hang on, what? Last year Cotto beat Margarito and Mayorga. Bradley beat Casamayor. Name 1 fighter at 154 who has established himself as "the man" above Cotto? Alvarez? Kirkland?
Typical nonsense talk. Would you give Cotto more praise if he: Beat Torres later after he beat Kendall Holt? Beat Malignaggi later after he beat NDou, Ngoudjo? Beat Quintana later after he beat Williams? Beat Mosley later after he beat Margarito? There's a million and one belts going round these days, in fact I think both of my Grans have one each (?) I'd rather he mixed with quality opponents than did what Pacquiao has been doing, beating people like David Diaz and winning catchweights and passing them off as legit world championships.
