Any serious gambler who backs something at 1/6 needs to give it up and (if they don't have one) get a day job.

I don't mind losing a bet if I'd have actually had the chance of winning something in the first place. You wouldn't work for a week to only receive a day's pay, would you?

Lumping on at 1/6 and then having to sit through it chewing your fingers off really isn't worth it. And then you lose....

I tend to disagree with all this he's only a small guy talk as well. Yes he came from 130lbs but he has moved up with age, as his body has developed. He is probably the hardest trainer in boxing and there is not an ounce of fat on him, to me he is fully fledged welterweight now.

I don't think the fact he has moved up in weight should allow him a free pass to fight over matched opponents. If you want to be the best you need to fight the best. Floyd without doubt has not done this.

If he's so small why didn't he just move back down to 140lbs? He could have fought just as good opposition as he has during his welterweight reign. Would have added a little more substance to his victories over Hatton and Marquez.

 

His resume @ 147 is shocking.

Like i said before, it's a good job that he wasn't fighting in the late 70's to mid 80's era, because he would of had a handful of defeats on his record.

The man has no balls AND the Oscar fight was the worst thing that could of happened to him. Why? Because it's all about money for him now, not legacy.

Great fighter? Yes. Ducker of the highest order? Hell yes.

 

Great post. If we're judging him with the 'greats' of the past then he's as natural a welter as any of them. Those that say 'he's coming up' are the same that say 'he doesn't cut any weight so can't move up any further'.

Physically, he's as perfect a welter as I have ever seen, and clearly posseses the skills to be classed as one in comparison to the likes of Gavilan, Griffith and Rodriguez...all who fought 'natural' Middles.

Cokes Vs Floyd is very interesting, now there's an underrated fighter!

 

Firstly he didn't move above 135 until he was 27, that's after Duran left LW and around the same time as Whitaker moved up. Both considered natural LWs. His best performances where he was quickest are at 130-135

You're also not accounting for 24hour weigh ins and the fact he's generally facing 155-160lb men cutting water weight to make 147, while he's only been gaining a couple of pounds back similar to Pacquaio, Sergio Martinez comparatively comes in at 170lbs

 

i dont think he anyway near the best ever because of the fights that hasnt happened.

he has great talent there is no doubt but not facing the best at welterweight eg: margarito , cotto when they were in prime and the manny p saga will hurt his legacy.

the best pure boxer i have saw in my lifetime is pernell whitaker , if whitaker fought mayweather i think that workrate that constant right jab and speed would have mayweathe confused and would lead him to try and attack whitaker...a mistake.

greats like leonard , duran , hearns , whitaker etc were all tested at the elite level...mayweather hasnt

it can only ever be speculation mate, I favour Pernell on the basis of him being more complete than Mayweather, it's not as though Mayweather is just going to be battered, there's no empirical evidence to suggest that, any suggesrtion that extreme is merely speculation. Whitaker is one of the most complete fighters of all time, and has more in his bag to use over the distance, I think he'd make that usage and win a good fight on points.

If we really think Mayweather would have no chance at all against great fighters of yesteryear then it's suggesting that the whole scene of boxing has basically no ability at all today, and I know you're of that opinion mate, but I'm not. Boxing is sweet right now.

Boxing is a cruel game and if you can do what he has and get maximum reward for as little risk as possible then fair play to you, but dont expect any favours when it comes to legacy.

It pisses me off that Mayweather gets a pass in so many fantasy match-ups, especially at Welterweight where IMO he deprived us of possible matches with Margarito, Cotto, Pacquiao and Williams all who were arguably in the prime of their careers over the past few years when Floyd could have faced them.

As a fan I feel Mayweather sold us out as far as substance is concerned but he did make himself a lot of money taking an easier path.

 

I always wanted to see Mayweather fight Cory Spinks, just because that fight could have happened at a time when Mayweather just kept fighting guys who would come forward swinging, I hated that, it bored me so much because we know that he can deal with it, it was just like ok, we know you will win this fight easily, but Spinks wasn't just going to offer some kind of mid ring boxing, Spinks would actually be totally on the back foot, I wanted to see how Floyd would have dealt with that.

Even more interesting would have been Vernon Forrest, one of my favourite fighters of the era.

 

I reckon Jose Napoles would give Floyd Mayweather more issues than the ring magazine has
