Cannot stand him, to me he gets far to involved. I know Freddy uses him to shout commands due to his problems but for me Ariza should only speak when asked and other then that stick to workouts and leave the fighting to fighter and trainer.
Does Mitchell not realise how twatty he sounds when he talks about wanting to let Lora go the distance with him. Does he think he will tell his grandkids or something??
He's not a pure boxer, he's far too easy to hit. Even Carl Johanneson dragged him into a war, a war he won, and that's my point. If he was a good boxer he'd have been able to take Carl at that point to the cleaners well and truly. He has a good counterpunch when he isn't trying to manufacture them, a decent dig, decent speed, decent power. But nothing exceptional in any one department. Fighting like that he just gets walked down and smashed by anybody decent whereas if he declared war with Burns he probably loses anyway because Burns looks stronger and much superior defence, but at least he'll have a go and not just get pissed on. This half baked style Kevin is producing is going to be a diaster at world level, his defence is beyond atrocious and its time he starts to play to his strengths instead of pretending he's actually a good boxer. Even Murray performance, great performance, but aside from showing some movement it was hardly class boxing that won it, it was classier punching in a war. I just don't wanna see Burns walking forward and exposing Kevin, Kevin not even having a go, getting stopped in 7 rounds and then coming out with excuses.
He is an opportunist attention *****. He has no business opening his mouth in the corner. **** sake at the start of the fight he was the last out of the ring and clumsily gave chavez a kiss as he left the ring, i was thinking wtf:nut
Mitchell is far too fragile to be getting in a war and he has great footwork. We can get carried away here, i hadnt seen lora before and to me he was just as dangerous at prescott. I think mitchell done well, he fought better against murray and if he had thrown the same number of uppercuts as he did in the murray fight he could have disheartened him. But my point remains - he is too fragile for a war, tibbs knows that well. Many a boxer would have had a few more L's on there record if they had exposed their frailties for the sake of a war, not least the great benny leonard. Fight to your strengths.
Hey guys I've got some tactics for the next fight. They're 'Have a war.' What do you guys think? Why are you all staring at me?
I will revise that, no prescott was a bigger threat to winning the fight because he had a lot more speed and a good jab. But lora was a tough, strong, relentless fighter, who was dangerous to the final bell
I'm just not sure Mitchell's strengths are fighting off the backfoot. His footwork is okay but he's still easy enough to back into corners and once you do his silly impression of a shoulder roll is cannon fodder and the point about his durablity is valid but that's the case fighting the way you advocate too. The only difference is he may last more rounds in a fight that is already a struggle on the balance of probabilities, at the expense of using his fairly well tuned upper body movement in close and occasionally classy counterpunching to actually do damage. I think considering the opponent tonight to land the sum total of 2 really damaging blows was less than impressive since he managed to give away momentum and confidence to his opponent after a decent start. That trade off isn't that good especially keeping in mind what's to come. I think fighting like this is okay to take some of the air out of a basic plodder like Murray, it worked. But against someone like Burns who isn't going to fade I think he just lets Burns get a foothold and dominate and then its a massive struggle to turn around. If he stands in the trenches he can make something happen since he's a little less stiff, he can get into a good flow up close, he does occasionally show a sprinkle of magic offensively. Stick with that for me. Benny Leonard comparison I'm not seeing the line of thinking, Leonard was a superb boxer that could use defence as a fight winning attribute. Mitchell's I can barely describe as good defence so to be going backwards and basing a significant portion of your fight plan around it is counter productive. Or perhaps Mitchell can find some kind of balance he's never found yet.
