The IBF (International Boxing Federation) is one of the younger governing bodies, beginning operations in 1984. Their rankings and championship title shots were almost immediately paid for, by This content is protected . The IBF's rankings would depend on the merit of the boxers in their particular division, but fighters with a big-pocket promoter, like Don King, could pay to advance. Bribes from big promoters ensured their fighters stayed ranked above other fighters just getting by. This scheme would go on for over 13 years before an investigation was made, and IBF President Robert Lee was arrested, along with three other officials who were charged with taking bribes. Over 23 boxers and 7 promoters, including Don King and Top Rank's Bob Arum, were revealed to have been involved in fights tainted by bribes. Arum said he paid $100,000 in 1995 to have George Foreman not have to face his mandatory. The IBF fed Foreman Alex Schulz, who was defeated by majority decision. In the end, Lee was convicted on bribery charges and served 22 months in prison and paid $25,000 in fines. --------------------------------------- The IBF, among other entities, is a major sanctioning body based in New Jersey. The way boxing works: each sanctioning body has a champion and champions are only allowed to fight boxers ranked in the top 15. Ranking committees determine who gets ranked. Ranking committee chairmen have the final say and are notoriously corruptible. In November 1999 IBF president Bob Lee Sr. was indicted and convicted on numerous racketeering charges. Lee was conspiring with his rankings chairman C. Douglass Beavers to rig the rankings system to favor boxers whose promoters and handlers paid them cash bribes. The duo routinely took hundreds of thousands of dollars from the likes of Don King and Cedric Kushner in return for artificial inflation of the rankings of their fighters. Promoters who didnt pay didnt see title fights. The result, a completely corrupt system that was not in any way based on merit. Another black eye for boxing
There best of the lot. There under USA federal law because there on the USA, Unlike all the other bodies. Base in Mexico, panama.
Its a fair question, are they still taking bribes? is this organisation still corrupt. If you dont know then simply say, you dont know and leave it at that, no point in being trival on the matter, fact is fact, the president was caught red handed accepting bribes, its rated in one of the top 10 disgraceful moments in boxings history, its relevant to ask the question are they still corrupt. Get your head out of the sand yet Leon? doesnt look like it lol
Well going by your logic ****wit, are they or aren't they? Answer your own rhetorical question. Everybody knows Bob Lee was caught years ago and jailed. Does it still happen? How would I know. Are you still brain damaged from being dropped on your head all those years ago? It's relevant to ask the question as you continue to post dribble day in, day out.
TC, as they tend to leave 1 and 2 spots "vacant" in the rankings, it would suggest that yes places are still able to be paid for in the top 15
Leon sent Francis a PM citing 192 instances of corruption by the IBF in the last 19.2 years apparently so I would say yes.
The IBF had a US federal injunction about all this ages ago. Daryl Peoples is the President of the IBF these days, the IBF like the other orgs still pull out some random ratings & defences which raise eye brows. Is it still currupt?? Probably...but good luck gaining the evidence. Unlike the other orgs which are based in Mexico, Panama & Puerto Rico, the IBF's actions will always be much more scrutinized.
