No one is denying that Dempsey had power. How his skills and ability would translate to the better, more refined, more athletic heavies of today is a different question. Quite frankly, much of Dempsey's filmed work greatly disappoints me. He is rash, wide open and off balance. He looks distinctly vulnerable to a good sized professional heavyweight who can counter and control distance. Granted a great deal of his destruction of the ranks occurred off film or film did not survive.
There you have it. Anyone who can hit has a puncher's chance, and Dempsey certainly could hit. Dempsey also had excellent hand speed, and in his prime good movement skills. The stiff and slow fell victim to his whirlwind attack, however comparing some obscure big guy to a skilled modern day super heavyweight is like comparing a Lincoln Town car to a Mayback.
You miss the point , no one suggests that Wray had anywhere the skill set of the Klits . The point is Dempsey could shatter the jaw of a giant and is on record as having done so twice, therefore the argument that he is too small to compete with the latterday heavies is a shaky one imo. Factor in that Wlad for example ,has a less than top notch chin, and is uncomfortable under intense pressure, and you have a very interesting machup imo.
This, I knew a 6'4 bodybuilding bouncer who got into an altercation with a 160lb amateur boxer who wasn't much cop who shattered said bouncers jaw. If you are referring to the Willard fight ,both boxers came into the ring with their hands wrapped but glove off, both fighters hands were examined by the opposite corner ,look at the film.
That guy was quite skinny for 7'2. He weighed the same as Vitali despite a 7" height advantage and was 50 lbs lighter than SNV, the same height as him Not that it means too much. We know from his height and weight he wasn't carrying a spare tyre, but his height and weight obviously weren't in proportion
