If and when Evander does finally retire and the dust settles on his career I'd expect his standing to rise up once again.

The fact he's the only Cruiser who really matters and the last truly great "small" heavyweight competing against giants and succeeding when his only advantages were his skills and massive heart will be remebered long after his struggles with Sherman Williams and Larry Donald are forgotten.

Chavez' problem is more that his connection with Don King and some tainted results stick in the mind more than his mastery in his prime. The Whitaker and Randall II fights have soured his reputation as has the Meldrick Taylor stoppage amongst some people (although he can't really be blamed for that, he fought his arse off in that one).

It's a pity because he was a truly great fighter and one of the best to ever lace them up imo but his legacy has been severely hurt by your standard boxing bull**** and corruption.

I rate Chavez top 10 ATG pound for pound.

His run is virtually unmatched, he fought everyone and was very skilled

I pick him to beat Armstrong and Whitaker at lightweight, and the Duran fight would be a toss up.

I think in time his stock will rise again, hopefully anyway.
Chavez at his best was one of the best pressure fighters I've ever seen. That left hook to the body was such a debilitating punch.
I always found it a bit strange that he was not more openly embraced in North America.

I dont think his star has faded. I was somewhat turned off by his behavior when his skills started to deteriorate. He became a very sore loser.

You gotta have a lot of respect for these pressure fighters especially as they move up in weight and have to face guys that are physically as strong as them, but have the boxing skills to offset their style. Chavez will always be a great fighter.

Toyed with him? No, but Floyd possibly beating Chavez, yes. Hard one to call and I'm a big fan of Chavez.

He did act like a punk when he lost, too bad he couldn't be as professional after the fights as he was during the fights. He should thank God for corrupt officials that gave him the draw against sweetpea.

Meldrick Taylor deserved to beat him, and was in my opinion robbed.

Taylor as a fighter was finished forever after what Chavez did to him.

Taylor was a good fighter and had great handspeed, but he was not a great fighter. Even with Meekins and McGirt he beat them easily with his speed, but he was busted up a little, especially with Meekins. He had good inside handspeed, but he was always in range of his opponents punches, which made fighting Terry Norris impossible since Terry was bigger and had fast hands and was in range.

I'd say Chavez is these days becoming more and more under-rated. He was simply a superb all round fighter and the reason for under-rating him seems to be the explosion of 'world' titles. Which is complete BS. Chavez won 3 titles, Pac has won 752? or whatever. And Chavez was and always will be, the better fighter who achieved more than Pac ever will :good

taylor is sorta like khan with his speed in the sense that he beat fighters with speed but the difference between the two was that taylor could fight inside with his speed and take it to his opponet
