But he was responding to the poster above who claimed Pac wasn't a WW champ because he won it at a catchweight, this despite him having defended his WW title 3 times after that, Clottey/JMM/Mosley.

Now simple logic holds, if we're going by the logic that a championship cannot be won via catchweight, then neither Pac nor Ortiz were ever WW champ. Therefore beating them is meaningless to the point of winning the championship as they aren't champions.

  2. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn that this was made at 150.

Look at the wording used when Mayweather announced the fight.

"It will be for Cotto's 154 lb. title."
Doesn't say **** about what weight they agree to, and that's no accident. Mayweather knows fickle fans on sites like ESB will throw a fit (except Marshmallows, sppi550 and other *****sexuals who were on here puttin Pacquiao on Blast for the catchweight vs. Margs). So they are gonna try their damnedest to keep the contracted weight from going public.

Mayweather loves weight shenanigans. Ask Marquez.

And for the record... I don't give a **** about catchweights or the worthless titles at stake. As long as they agreed and signed the fight, I -- the boxing fan -- win.

i'm asking ripcity the question. are you ripcity?

he won't recognize someone as a champ at the weight if it was made through a catch weight fight.

are you in ****** mode once again sdsfinest?

I don't agree that a title should be on the line at less than the upper weight limit, but saying that, Cotto isn't a big junior middleweight and I can see Mayweather not paying the WBA fees anyway, same as he did against...was it Mosley? Wasn't that the WBO title or something? If both guys agree 150 and the belt isn't on the line, then it's an entirely valid fight.

Saying all this...is there actually any PROOF that it's at 150 and not 154?

  5. Who gives a **** who the champ is anymore?!?

The other day my friend, a good guy but not a huge follower of the sport, asked me "So is Mayweather the champion, or what belt does he have exactly?"

And bless his heart, he's just trying to understand some **** that would take 14 years to explain... but I tried to answer him, and it went a little something like this:
"Well yeah, he's the uh welterweight... uh... well that title he won from Ortiz but... the welterweight belt isn't really... uh... ok just forget the damn belts, none of them matter."

    My friend is still confused.

  6. That's if you put any stock in the belts at all. I don't. Which is why I also don't give a **** what weight they fight at as long as it's fair... which in this case, seems to be.

This catchweight isnt about belts or draining Cotto , but shows Floyds top weight.

This will rule out Martinez , Canelo and numerous other good tests.

This may seem complactaed, but these are my thoughts on the matter of catchweights and championships.
Yes, Here is why: I fell to be a champion you have to either defete a standing champion at the in a non catchweight bout, or win a bout declared for the vacant championship in a non catchweight bout. Now I understand that technealy speaking because Ortiz beat Berto in a catchweight bout. Which truthfully intell you mentioned it was catchweight. By the way what was the catchweight? If I was to say "A" won at a catchweight therefore he's not champion than the championship would possibily never be claimed. After winning a championship in a catchweight. The official champion can not be the champion, unless he defetes a standing champion at the ligit weight or wins a vacant championship at the ligit weight.
I understand this is confusing. Examples: Ortiz (had the Berto bout been a catchweight) would not be the WBC 147 champion had he beat Mayweather. If there was a rematch and Mayweather was still the WBC champion and Ortiz won he'd be the champion. Had Mosley beaten Pacquiao, he'd be the WBO champion. However had Marquez gotten the decision he'd not be the WBO champion since that was contested at a catchweight.
By the way this is the first time I've herd that Ortiz/Berto was at a catchweight, I'd like some relibile links showing that it was.

I made a thread about this that Floyd may end up being the bigger guy but *****s insist Floyd is a small guy and that Cotto has a considerable size advantage :patsch

I'm not going by that-That's where you fuked up in your "assumption"...

Pac is a ww champ...but he won the belt by pulling some ***** moves-takin Cotto down to 47 n $hit-

Floyd does not have control over previous fights-
I"M saying in THE FIGHT WITH ORTIZ-FLOYD TOOK THE BELT AT 147-Your putting negatives towards Floyd because of another fight-I see exactly what Pugi is saying-problem is I'm talkin about "technically" speaking where a belt is not just "made up" as one was "made up" for the Margarito Pac fight-

so again-your assumption in what I was trying to say is way way off man...not even close.:dealnot arguing with you..just tellin you that you did not pick my post apart as u thought it meant something totally of what it actually did..:deal
