Agreed. which is why I spend most of my time in the boxing gym. Also If I'm doing sets of 20 I'm doing them at a weight at which I reach 17-18 reps my muscles are burning hot with lactic acid. I don't see how an exercise that produces these results is a 'waste of time'. Many people are making baesless assumptions concerning how others train on this forum.

Or they know what they're talking about when it comes to muscle physiology and adaptation to exercise while you're talking out of your rectum. Either or.

"baesless assumptions concerning how others train on this forum."

the way i read this is in reference to how people train, not how they should train.

    like if say i said

    "i shadow box with dumbells."

a baseless assumption converning how others train in reference to this would be something like

"thats the dumbest thing iv heard, shadow boxing with dumbells isnt going to make you any faster."

but i shadow box with dumbells to improve endurance, thus the baseless assumption concerning how i train would be that i shadow box with dumbells for speed.

in reference to this topic i belive it went something like

"i do sets of 20 reps"

"thats stupid, your never going to get stronger doing that"

    exactly.

Somebody please answer the question that if I do 4/5 sets of 20 of a particular lift until the lactic acid is burning my muscles how that is a waste of time and completely non beneficial as some are making out on this topic

haha they have the most medals of anyone in boxing at the olympics. they cleaned up in 2004, then in 2008 blew it because of defections and an inexperienced team and suddenly theyre no more? thats like claiming canada wasnt dominating the hockey world after getting smoked in the 2006 winter olympics, yet still came back to win gold in 2010. of course canadas still going to be recognized as the best. amateur boxing and cuba are no different. not looking to start the typical e-fight that seems to frequent these forums, was just pondering...

You don't want very big biceps in boxing but should concentrait on shoulder and back muscles and legs thats the basis of power punches you have to remember muscle gets heavy in long fights most muscular fighters do not have very good endurance

Because it's not sports specific, why do you want to get the 'burn' and hypertrophy slow twitch fibres anyway? I thought you didn't like to tear your muscles?
When you train in a certain way your body learns where to pump the blood, where it's needed. That's why you can't train for a marathon on a bicycle. Sports specificity is very important.
When you box there's a muscular endurance component always being trained. Your muscles learn how they're meant to be working when you box, the fibres that are involved in your punching movements are going to adapt. By doing 20 reps of a weightlifting exercise you're just training your muscles for that weightlifting exercise.
Those peripheral changes to your muscles in a practical sense are going to do zero for your fitness, contrary to what Ylem believes.

Weights aren't sports specific to boxing at all and are arguably not needed but if you are going to go to the weight room then the best use of your time is to work strength, with that you get increased endurance anyway.

You doing 20 reps of an exercise is like an olympic weightlifter going to an abandoned building and attaching two barrels to a pole to clean and jerk instead of going to his world class weight lifting gym next to his house.
Yeah it's going to do something but everything does something. That's a good thing and a bad thing. It's bad in the sense that it means that clueless people will do it, see some sort of change, and believe they're onto a good thing so therefore they shouldn't change anything or make better use of their training time.
Why don't you tell us what it's doing for you and why it's a good use of your training time? Feeling the burn isn't a good reason for doing it btw.
And before you repeat the nonsense that ******** Ylem said try and remember what I said about sports specificity and think about the difference between central and peripheral adaptations to exercise, the neural adaptations to exercise and what aspect/s of fitness you're already working to a large extent in your everyday boxing training. Go..

Cuba aren't the force they were anymore because of the change in boxing style from missed slappy punches scoring to the current system of only clear, hard punches scoring. There's more inside fighting and body punching. Contrary to what old timers would have you believe the sport is progressing, better athletes on olympic teams and better facilities and knowledge making the playing field more even. Look at the England and Irish teams, world class and on the level of the Cubans.
Even the Russians aren't quite as dominant as they were, the only real standout nation over the last few years has been the Ukrainians.
The Cubans really aren't recognised as the best amateur boxers and haven't been for around 6 years now. Throughout history they've always been on par with the Russians anyway and they actually got their training methods from the soviets back in the day so combined with the current success of Ukraine then I'd say the soviets are historically the best in the amateur game.
