I'd imagine he has. From the 1st Hopkins fight right up until the loss to Abraham I'd imagine he was on a million bucks per fight - aside from the Lacy fight perhaps. As a fighter he's never been my cup of tea, but as a bloke I like him. I think he's good enough to make a good comeback, though I don't see him having serious title aspirations.
Yeah he seems a decent fella, i'd like him to end it on his own terms without much harm. I love these shows. Tennis Ball attached to band that went around head, ball was on a string., As used by Kostya Tszyu. 1:15 very brief [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YsxEBIHkzk[/ame] There was also a partner drill, circle drawn and you had to mirror the image of your partner as they moved around. I'm gonna think of any drills that i could translate from football to boxing. A reaction type activity would be one i could do.
i definitely agree with this. could anyoner elaborate. i would be keen to learn more as no one has ever really told me how to do this. thanks
Well i remember Jim Watt going on during the Hatton-Mayweather fight about PBF's breathing. Kept mentioning 'Yoga' type breathing. It's often overlooked aspect of the sport, i'll try dig up stuff from google see what's said.
Chris Fernandez Pro Boxer, i'll keep searching. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I28RIdYZYo[/ame]
I really fear for him, lads. With his name he's ganna be put in with someone who's not good for him. I'm a fan of Taylor. I think his résumé in his reign as middleweight champ is underrated and pretty good by todays standards. The problem with Jermaine is he has always suffered from really bad nerves. Nerves that get him so tense and give him negative body rhythm. He also has the the worst boxing IQ of any elite 'champion' in the last few decades. Not to mention so many bad technical habits like the 'bow and arrow' after he throws his jab. The left hand that is always in a bad position, not having a good punch recovery etc. The other thing i've noticed about Taylor over the years is, i don't think he retains information very well. He's not very sharp. Whenever he's put in a really difficult situation in the ring his reaction is to just fight harder and not smarter. This along with that nervous energy, which makes him rock back and forth and pick up his feet causes him to burn out quickly. I hope it ends well.
Except for the fact He was shite in pretty much allhos defences, especially Ouma. Taylor was a very lethargic champion, and ImO one of the worst 'unified' champs in middleweight history. Just my opinion though :good
Thank you and thank you JDSM. What a shot, little pull back and kaboom, that is ****ing counter punching at it's finest!
Taylor for a guy with so many flaws fought some decent guys in his reign was just my point. I think for todays standards it was a decent run. MUCH better than someone like Pavlik's reign for example. Hopkins twice. I know we can all argue about the result till the cows come home and i'll be the first to do it in favour of Bernard. But Taylor gave a good account of himself against Hopkins in two fights and has a very good case for his wins. Winky. Even though again one could say Winky won the fight. Taylor fought a guy who imo is a bad style for him and who no one was exactly lining up to face. Winky was also coming off two great wins. Ouma. Taylor looked horrible. It was a showcase fight for him, but he didn't deliver. Ouma is a tricky guy though when he gets into his punching rhythm and volume. Spinks. I actually think Cory has a case for winning this fight. But again it was a tricky opponent for someone like Taylor. Cory isn't a guy you can look great against all the time and i think it was also on short notice. He was a champ at the time. Even though he was coming up. The problem was people expected him to blow the likes of Ouma and Spinks away. It doesn't always work like that. He didn't look good, but won those fights. Then he fights a top of his game Pavlik. I think that's a pretty good resume for someone like Jermaine Taylor. He didn't hide, fought some tough styles for him, even though they weren't true middleweights. In hindsight for someone with tons of flaws like he has he did well. And that was a decent schedule of fights. The problem was he was being thrown down people's throats and so the expectations were sky high. So it becomes a let down when he doesn't put Ouma in the trunk and struggles with tricky Cory Spinks. After Winky i think the plan was to make him look good and showcase him again but the choice of opponents were tough on him.
Smitty does a great job with those. I really like the Calzaghe one. We get a good insight into what made him so good. I'm laughing at the McCallum one. lol You can sense Mike didn't wanna give much away into his secrets like throwing the bodyshots. He was just making general points about setting things up properly (stealing as he called it) and not loading up. Still great points though about todays fighters. I do feel Mike could've given us MUCH more there. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBRqHA6DGxw[/ame]
