What do you think the natural ability is that causes great punching power?

Is it so far fetched that a great power punching 150 pound boxer can bench 250 pounds? Great power punching Heavyweights seem to be able to bench over 500 pounds I know Lewis, Rahman,Tyson and likely many others could. Yet they are not twice as big as someone like Hearns. Pound for pound Hearns is as hard of hitter I think.

It's not so much raw strength its balance. He's well balanced, in a rigid stance, and he knows how to use what strength and weight he has efficiently.

Whats up with all this talk of weights. How much you can bench has very little bearing on how functionally strong you are as it pertains to your capacity to muscle someone around in the ring.

I don't know, but I do know that some people have it and most do not, just like some have the ability to throw a baseball 100mph or to jump 40" in the air from a standstill. They just do.

Yes, I would have a hard time believing that a tall, skinny 150 pound dude could bench press almost twice his body weight without having put in some serious time working on his bench. Also, I would be very surprised to hear that either Lewis or Tyson could bench anywhere near 500lbs. Cus D'amato didn't let his fighters touch weights and from what I've heard, Mike didn't start lifting weights until after he came out of prison. I also know for a fact that Emmanuel Steward is not a fan of weight training so I highly doubt Lennox spent much time working on his bench. Rahman can do it and he's the only boxer that I know of who can.

Amir Khan claimed he benches 125kg yesterday on his twitter when someone asked him the question. If true, that's impressive for his weight and would surpise me how strong these guys are

I think the ability to punch hard or throw a basball hard comes from being naturally very strong. Not that heavy weight training is good training for either, but I think a flame thrower or power puncher has great natural strength and could move around some very heavy weight without even really doing weight training regularly.

I have been looking around on google a little to see if I am way off on my idea that boxers have very strong muscles. I am finding lots of evidence that they can lift a lot of weight. Many hard Heavyweight punchers seem to bench at least 400 pounds. And I found a source that said Ray Leonard could bench 300 pounds and Pacquiao can bench 300 pounds also.

I've never been impressed by the weights I see these guys doing on pulldowns etc, even guys like Jones. Hatton, on the other hand, leg presses ridiculous amounts. I am way more likely to challenge a big strong short muscle bound fool who doesn't fight than a tall skinny guy who looks like Hearns and not worry. All the hardest punchers I have been hit by have been tall bean poles in general, arguello and hearns and pavlik style. so much leverage. and they all suck at bench. (I think this is very true between lightweight and middleweight - but a short stocky heavyweight obviously is deadly with all that strength if they are fit individuals)

Obviously there are weak tall guys, and I wouldn't wrestle a short stocky incredibly strong guy, but in general.

Listing stats on yourself isn't bragging. If I said I could bench 135 and weighing 150 you wouldn't consider that bragging, but just because you're impressed you consider it bragging. dumb
Also, how is having a plasma bragging? everyone has one. Stating i threw old tv out and have new one isn't bragging.
    How old are you?

I came across the website of a boxer, he fought at 115 and his website said he could bench 300 pounds. It said that he never lifts just 300 push-ups every other day I believe. I forgot his website and his name all together.

How old I am is none of your ****ing business and has nothing to do with what we're talking about here. Don't try to change the subject. :nono

It is bragging when we're talking about how strong Floyd Mayweather is and you come in here with some **** like "Floyd can maybe bench 200, but I used to be able to bench 405 :hey ". Nobody ****ing asked you how much you used to be able to bench, and it has nothing to do with the thread. You saw an opportunity to brag about your "stats" and you couldn't resist. Keep lying about it if you feel you need to, but the only one you're fooling is yourself.

I don't know if Pavlik sucks at bench or not, but he can dead lift a lot of weight. You see those big heavy tires Pavlik used to flip before he blew his back out? He would flip them like they were pebbels meanwhile they were in exsess of 600 pounds . I bet its harder to flip one of those also because its lower to the ground and you can't wrap your fingers around them like you can a bar.

So you're done trying to argue that you didn't come in this thread to brag and try to convince people that you're some type of internet strongman/baller then? :think
