A prime 160 Jones is a far cry from the 35 plus year old guy fighting at light heavy and abused by juice ... I see him being way too fast , strong and hard hitting ... no knock on Carlos but I can actually see him being stopped .. he never fought anyone remotely like Jones because at 160 there really was no precedent ...

 

JT,when i try to pick a winner in a Fantasy match, whoever I choose would be the most LIKELY to win. In my mind's eye I try to visualize who would win between Monzon and all other opponents also based on their RECORDS
and what they accomplished. Monzon was a tall rangy strong large MW who to me was somewhat robotic in his delivery.
You ask which fighters of the talent packed MWs of the 1930s I would pick over Monzon ? He would be tough for most of them but I truly believe A Freddie Steele, an Al Hostak [deadly puncher], young Ezzard Charles [was great at MW], Marcel Thil,[better than Cerdan], prime Tony Zale, [before 4 years in Navy],Fred Apostoli,and yes a young fast moving toughie, Billy Conn , would most likely defeat Monzon, not to mention Marvin Hagler in the mix.. All these babies went through the mill in the 1930s [except Hagler of course]...IMO...

 

Ok, so just out of the 30's mob you pick 7 to beat Monzon. Cool. We know you pick Greb as well so 8. I'm near willing to bet my life you pick Walker as well? 9.

What about pre and post 30's excluding Hagler (10 and counting to beat Monzon) who you also pick to win.
