Has come for a re-classification of weight classes?

I think it could be, potentially, the re-birth of boxing.

I'm gonna set some new parameters for the different weight classes, taking into account the change in size and stature of humans generally compared to 80 years ago, the amount and frequency of catch-weight fights used, I'm gonna look at the suitability of a Super-Heavyweight division to remove the often massive weight difference between two Heavyweight competitors, it doesn't happen in any other weight class and the fights in these classes are of better quality.

Anyway, while I draft the thing out, any input you wana throw at this topic will all be read and appreciated.

    :good

EDIT: Sorry bit of title got lost! Should be 'Has the time come...' **** writing on heroin again, makes me look a ****. ;-)

    Em...

    And you'll implement this how?

The weight isn't an issue, IMO, it's the proliferation of titles.

Well, I'll get the thing drafted out first, worry about anybody with any authority caring later.

The amount of titles is obviously another issue, I'm more along the 'whatever promoters want to do in order to sell tickets and get money for the industry and connection to the main stream audiences, fair play' lines than 'we need to trim the amount of rewards and achievements and area titles on offer'. I think those of us who consider ourselves real boxing fans, know which belts really mean something and those that can just alert you that there's more to find out before you start signing up to his website. :D

I think you should take into accoung that the bigger in the weight scale the less of a difference size makes IMO. theres less seperating a SMW and a LHW than a WW and a LWW so it seems. Raise Cruiser to 210 and LHW to 180 or something, maybe merge a few of the smaller classes but smw down to FW sould stay the same at least

Sure man, that's what I'm saying, there needs to be full re-classification, with all the Heavyweight Hype in the headlines at the minute I didnt want it turn into a simple Superheavweight division debate, I'm talking from the bottom up, I'm favouring slightly less weight classes and less versions, it would make for such a rise in the level of top fights, which is where the dough is.

SMW > FW would have a class or even two removed for me though, at this early point of conception.

Ridiculous. There are still fighters that weigh the same as the weightclasses we already have. In fact there are still men who can make straw weight, which hasn't been around all that long.

  7. HW
    190
    175
    160
    147
    135
    126
    118
    112
    105

    That'd do just fine.

What some people consider a relatively weak era would be strengthened in an instant, as you'd have to fight some top guys in order to earn a crust.

    115
    110
    105

You can't limit Heavyweight to 190. I agree with raising the Cruiserweight limit.

  13. I'd limit cruiser to 190, and have the bigger lads fighting at HW, which is obviously unlimited.

A skilled 14st operator would be favoured to beat a man like Arreola, unless he's got an eggy chin.

Look at Adamek, a pretty basic operator.... not much power, relatively easy to land on. Not done bad at HW.

Yhe but he got absolutley outclassed and beat up by the world title holders the Klitsckos.

    I would go with

    210+ Heavyweight
    210 Cruiser
    180 Light Heavy
    165 Middleweight
    150 Welterweight
    140 Lightweight
    130 Featherweight
    120 Bantamweight
    112 Flyweight
    105 Straweight
