You did well to get a job after a degree. I went the same route, worked for my local paper for a while but for free and had to give it up and have found no work in journalism ever since. I give my full respect to anyone who eventually gets good paid work out of it because it's a very long road.
I just don't think he's anything special. Fond of hyperbole, slack in his structure, and a bit twee. He's not bad, just like a poor man's Schulberg.
