Its been seven years since those fights, and he's never panicked since.

I'm willing to say he's improved beyond those years, and I think the results clearly show it. He's been hit cleanly since, and has simply held or returned to the game plan.

I agree with you absolutely that the Wlad of the Brewster and Peter fights would be in serious, serious trouble. I think a mean Mike that wasn't totally shot would probably overwhelm him in a round or two.

But this is a new Wlad. I can tell you first hand, he does not react THAT badly to being cracked anymore. He's matured, and learned what to do when hurt.

Saying todays Wlad is the same thing as the Wlad back then is akin to saying todays Pacquiao is the same as the one who lost to Morales. Fighters improve, and Wlad is now in peak form, and hasn't looked rattled Peter-style in almost 7 years.

I give Tyson a good shot against Wlad because Wlad stays immobile in midrange. He has the best clinch in boxing up close, and he's the most lethal outfighter currently active behind his jab, but in that no-mans land where Tyson would actually be set to land, he'd have nothing but his underused left hook. IF, and its HUGE if, Mike got past the jab, and actually avoided smothering himself as he was wont to do post prison, he'd stand a great chance at blasting Wlad out, as he would any heavyweight. Assuming that Wlad loses because of his chin or composure when neither has been a problem in quite awhile just doesn't cut it for me.

But has the opposition been there to really test it?

His opposition since winning the title just hasn't been that great. It's not his fault I know, but still.

With the exception of the second Peter fight, I have watched all his title fights and guys like Chambers, a severely diminished Rahman, a diminished Brewster, Ibragimov etc. just haven't had either the neccessary punch or ability to apply pressure to make those cracks reappear.

Let's put it this way: Sanders as he was when he fought Wlad was more dangerous than any of Wlad's title challengers. At least I think so. Maybe one could exclude Calvin Brock.

Like I said earlier, I don't buy that Wlad's improved leaps and bounds. His style has undergone change and he has more experience now which always helps, but when in a pressure situation, fighters revert to type.

    :rofl

Tyson 1st punch in the fight hurt Holy...as well as in the 5th round..when he hurt Holy to the body and Mitch halpern ruled one low...Tyson then proceded to clip Holy with 2 uppercuts then his patented Bolo punch...right hand to the body and uppercut to the head. He then pushed Holy back and looked in control.

Tyson wasn't manhandled like a child..it was a very close fight in which Holyfield had the edge...it wasn't an absolute shut out and Holy fought an amazing fight...I can't see wlad fighting with the same intensity as Holy in that first first and similarly in the first 2 rounds of the rematch which he won conclusively.

Arguably Tyson's best performance post prison was against Frank Bruno....People thought he was near back to his Pre-prison best...why? Well it was because he showed the ability to move his head and dip, He didn't show a lead jab too much but his showing in that fight was more than adequate...great finish too!

Tyson against Wlad would be more difficult than Tyson against Vitali. Based on Vitali's performance against chisora(remember vitali admitting after the fight that he would've had a problem if chisora would've been a bit faster)who was very one paced and at 16 stone was able to match Vitali for strength, I see Mike winning conclusively before 6.
Vitali is either not the same man as he once was or he was slightly over rated due to his bravery against Lennox and hasn't fought decent quality of opponents since Lewis. A little of both I suspect.

Wlad would either go to a decision or Mike winning early..depending on if wlad froze once he felt the power.

I'm leaning towards Wlad on points...but not confidently..maybe 7 rds to 5..with Mike taking the first 5 and then gassing markedly towards the end.

Yes I have infact I've got it, Holyfield was never really hurt at all in the fight! Infact Tyson was badly shaken in either the 2nd or 3rd round. As for the rematch, it was going to be the same result as the 1st fight and Tyson knew it!!

Wheres the evidence that Tyson only trained for 3 weeks? It's all very well coming up with the excuse after you've just had your ass kicked! And I suppose Tyson who's one of the worlds leading authorities on boxing and is a crazy fan never studied Holyfield and his fights thoroughly! I'll say it again Holyfield was never in any trouble throughout any of the fights! Holyfield hurt Tyson in either the 2nd or 3rd round and Tyson froze after a shot!
