Leonard and Pea are definitely in the same tier imo. Both outside the top ten but not by much. Even if we are to remove pep from a top ten, guys like benny leonard and joe gans are knocking on the door ahead of pea imo.
The real issue i have with Pea is he couldnt beat any of those guys Ray beat...Buddy was good but Ray would have ate his lunch. you have to include could he beat other generations oposition..atleast i think so this is where Whitaker is in deep water at....
I think Whitaker could've beaten Benitez, in fact I'd narrowly favour him. Duran is a possibility as well, although that's anything but a given. As for Hagler, Hearns, and Leonard himself, it's hard to hold that against Whitaker being as he was a natural Lightweight. He was just too small to deal with the significantly larger elite level Welters (and especially the likes of Hagler).
Pea vs. Hagler would have been a comical physical mismatch. I'd favor Pea over Duran on styles. There is just no way he beats Leonard or Hearns. Too big and too fast. You can debate the DLH decision all you want, but it still stands that Oscar gave Pernell fits, so I see no reason why better, bigger, and even faster welters couldn't do the trick against a Pea who wasn't quite as past it. I don't think you can hold it against him that he would be in over his head against some of the very best fighters in history, in a division almost 15 pounds north of his natural weight. Could Pacquiao have beaten these guys, either? He's a natural 130-140 type guy who beefed up. He's still getting greater all the time for what he's managing to do up in these new weights.
Prime Curry,Norris whips him to as well as Pryor at 140 and Arguello at 130 and Duran beats him at any weight...he just doesent have enough firepower....
I am a massive Arguello fan. You've clearly never watched a fight of his if you don't think Pea is a horrible, horrible matchup for him. I actually think you've never watched a boxing match in your life. Norris was **** :rofl
This guy is an absolute '**** and doesn't have a clue about anything other than cleaning windows. With his Tongue.
If we place the fights in the appropriate weight divisions, this is how I think Whitaker goes: Close points win against a lightweight version of Wilfred Benitez. Razor thin decision against a natural featherweight Duran challenging Whitaker at 135. Rematch with an out of shape Duran would be a schooling. Close points loss against a lightweight equivalent of Tommy Hearns. Close points win against a fading welterweight version of Marvin Hagler. As I said, I think he's about as good as Ray Leonard.
I still like Benitez he was a little more offensive minded and stronger than Pea...Your boy Starling had a shot to beat him to...it would be interresting to see who would take the lead with Pea vs. these 2....
Im done with you....all you do is Ethug insults...your a funny dude tho just make sure you stay behind the keys with them live fingers you have...:rofl
