And in the end, who suffered the most brain damage or dementia due to it?

Some say Ali was damaged a lot in his last few fights. But he was a defensive wizard for most of his career.

Frazier took a lot of damage closing the distance...he seemed ok in interviews, and very lucid.

Big Georges-- haven't seen much except the Michael Moorer fight, where he gets dented over and over again. Another case of a guy with good mental health, years later.

    Some help here, please!

    1. Ali - took most of d punishment , not a defensive wizard at all , a runner 1st and 4 most
    2. Frazier - had 2 work hard in his fights , aggressive but was kept away from punchers except from Foreman . Shorter career than Ali helped him taking less punishment as well .
    3. Foreman - barely touched during most of his 1st stint , except from d Lyle fight . Back then his defense was his quick offense which didn't give his opponents time 2 hit him . Took punishment from Holyfield more than from Moorer , had tough fights during his comeback and most of times then , they weren't against d best fighters around , comeback Foreman was a protected fighter .

Ali first and foremost. He took amazing punishment from monstrous punchers in his second run. His three bouts with Frazier, three with Kenny Norton, one with Foreman, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Lyle, Shavers, Berbick and Holmes should see him top this list imo.

Frazier is second for me. Three bouts with Ali, which were really hurtful. Bonavena. Even in his winning fights, he habitually gave opponents the top of his head in order to land punches.

Foreman took some shots in his second career, but they were often from opponents on the back foot, swelling up his face but not denting his skull, if you know what I mean. Still, those punches too are hurtful.

    Pretty clear top three, imo.

Ali......when I went to the closed circuit FOTC in 1971 and Frazier began to beat the sh!t out of him......I thought to myself "What happened".

Foreman also took some poundings to the head in Foreman Part 2.
I hope he doesn't begin to show the effects of it soon....only George really
knows if he has been affected.

On a single fight for fight basis,Ali took far less 'head trauma' punishment than Frazier did. It's because Ali went on for much longer than Frazier did that we're talking about the cummulative punishment he took.

Ali hardly took any punishment in those two fights. The Cooper knockdown was one of the few shots that Henry actually landed. Ali's face was also totally unmarked after the Jones fight.

What about Wilfredo Benitez? Did he go on too long? Wasn't he supposed to be a defensive wizard?

I have watched quite a lot of the rounds from both fights under discussion. The Cooper fight is legendary for one punch. Understanderble when you think of the legend that Ali went on to become.

A lot gets made of the Jones fight. Yes,it was indeed close, but it was one of those learning curves that a future great needs in order to improve. Like, for example -

    Frazier-Bonavena I
    Foreman-Peralta I
    Tyson-Tillis

All yielded close results and the winners were better fighters because of it.
