It's friday and I'm pissed off, so thought I'd start a thread. What are the most idiotic comments about boxing that you have heard, preferably by a professional? I brought a boxset once that included 'The History of heavyweight boxing' whereby the narrator claimed that Gene Tunney had only ever lost once, against JOURNEYMEN Harry Greb! I didn't no whether to laugh or cry. I also see Burt Sugar claim that Gene Tunney was a top 5 ATG heavyweight 'because he had a great Light heavyweight Career' and that Lennox Lewis was 'somewhere around the 19th or 20th mark, behind Corbett and Sullivan'. Damn. Any others?
Manny Steward on Jorge Linares during Linares-DeMarco(not verbatim, but it's pretty much what he said): ''This may just be the greatest fighter I have ever saw.''
What!!!!!! Sugar, genuinely, knows nothing! He just spews bollocks that any objective person could check a few sources and see he's talking shite. I hate the guy.
Floyds 'I'm better than Ali and Robinson because I've never lost' was a particularly misguided comment.
"I'm preparing for my fight against Matthew Hatton by watching Ricky Hatton, as I think he's the better of the two". You could see and feel the embarrassment from everyone else in the room.
