It seems like the WBC keeps on doing things without much thought. First they give away belts and make all these fake diamond belts. Then they only enforce certain rules to certain fighters. Why such a big deal about a fighter weighing more the next day than his opponent. This all has its ups and downs and has been going on for years:deal The most important thing is making weight. The WBC has been joke as of lately. No wonder fighters dont care anymore about belts and ridiculous fees and rules that are only enforce at times.

Its a ridiculous change of rules and its only hurting the WBC when fighters decide to dump their belts and leave or not even fight for their title.

This smells like bull**** to me. Seems like a token gesture by Sulaiman to appease those who criticised JCC Jr for entering the ring weighing 180lbs vs Rubio. The 'allowance' over the divisional limit means in reality very little will change. It's just smoke and mirrors.

:patsch The whole reason why there are weigh classes is to give everyone a fair fight.

This has been going on for years. A fighter weighing much more than his opponent doesnt mean he has all the advantages. Just look at current fights when Cotto fought Mayorga and Margarito and when Manny fought Margarito. These guys were fighting much bigger opponents. Making weight once again is the most important thing and the rest is up to the fighter and his team how they want to handle their weight. Manny and even Marquez when they were fighting at the lower weight clases were coming in 15-16 lbs heavier the next night weighing over 140. The WBC is sinking quicker than the Titanic.

Great idea! I didn't think I would ever give props to the WBC for anything, but I will here. I hope all of these ABC sanctioning bodies will follow.

    from the link:

Jose Sulaiman reveals a new WBC rule scheduled to be implemented on July 1st universally. A weigh-in at 9.30am on the day of the fight will permit the fighter a maximum of 10% increase in weight above their specific weight division.

Some quick maths shows that this translates to the following limits with the actual weight limit on the left hand side, and the fight-day maximum weight on the right side.

Division Weight – Division – Maximum Weight On Fight Day
    105 – Minimumweight – 115.5
    108 – Light flyweight – 118.8
    112 – Flyweight – 123.2
    115 – Super flyweight – 126.5
    118 – Bantamweight – 129.8
    122 – Super bantamweight -134.2
    126 – Featherweight – 138.6
    130 – Super featherweight – 143
    135 – Lightweight – 148.5
    140 – Super lightweight – 154
    147 – Welterweight – 161.7
    154 – Super welterweight – 169.4
    160 – Middleweight – 176
    168 – Super middleweight – 184.8
    175 – Light heavyweight – 192.5
    200 – Cruiserweight – 220
    unlimited – Heavyweight – unlimited

Don't think Chavez will have to move. Chavez came in at 181 agaist Rubio. Under the new rules he can't weigh more than 176 at 9:30am weigh in on the day of the fight. This still leaves him another ten hours after this to put on any amount of weight he can.
