pep could, and probably would use dark arts to keep him off, with a pissy referee pep dq'd. if not then the skills would be too much for arguello, whose eyes will take damage in the fight, especially over 15 and whose best strategy would be body body body for the first half imo
I'm not as sure as you, Flea. Marcel looked to be someone who had all the talent, but not the investment in boxing. Over 15 rounds it's something you're gonna need against a peak Arguello. Especially if you expect to beat him in a series.
No. The version of Arguello that Marcel defeated at 126 is far from the prime Arguello at 130. If memory serves Arguello had Marcel in bad conditions in the 14th round of that fight... The Arguello post Olivares/Hernandez was a much better version of the one that Marcel fought at 126..... and the version of Arguello Post Escalera I, was probably the best Arguello we saw.... This version of Arguello would have dedeated Marcel imo. Watch the fight again and you will see that in the championship rounds Arguello as usual was coming back... however he did not have the experience required (at that time) to beat Marcel, who was a great boxer with great experience at that particular time... I think Arguello lost that fight because of 1) lack of experience needed in fights of that calibre (this was Arguello 1st chance for a title), which he gained after, and 2) he was not in his prime... EDIT: I remember when Arguello fought Hernandez, most of the people, especially Venezuelans, were thinking that Hernandez was going to beat Arguello, because of what they saw of Arguello vs Marcel, and one point some comentators were calling Hernandez "Campeon"... After the fight they realized that this was a much better version of Arguello...
