Don't see what's bad about this. Merchant can still talk about what Mayweather does or did in the ring. Floyd's personal life isn't that interesting unless you're fascinated in beating women and poking security guards. Don't the majority of boxing fans like Mayweather the Boxer much more than they do Mayweather the man? If Floyd stops his opponent in style, Merchant can still AZZk Floyd to walk us through it. If Floyd causes controversy like the Ortiz fight, Merchant can still talk about that.

Fighters should never dictate the content discussed by commentators on a live broadcast to that extent. You're going to jail, you've taken long layoffs to deal with legal issues, you won't be back until November- all of those things are relevant to the landscape of the divisions surrounding welterweight and the pound-for-pound makeup of boxing itself. It's not that big a deal and it won't affect my enjoyment of the event, but it's just silly to make such a ban so extreme. A request should have been enough.

Is it really this bad on HBO? There have been many times when I wished we had HBO in the UK,but since Marquez-pac 3,I've had my doubts going on what people say here.
If they're gonna' put a ban on what the announcers can say, why can't the same be done for the fighters? Then we wouldn't have to hear all that fake-ass religious **** coming from their mouths, if I wanna' hear THAT ****, I'll go to church.
I generally like the HBO commentary team a lot, it's only occasionally that one or some of them will exhibit excessive bias or just odd commentary. Merchant is hard to please in terms of exciting fights, but it's hardly ever an overwhelming hatred he exhibits against Mayweather.
If floyd doesn't want his personal life talked about, then the ignorant **** shouldn't do a 24/7, or talk about them himself. Insecure, ignorant, and immature. No wonder he attracts the dumbest ****s as fanboys. They strive to be him.
