championship rounds just means the rounds that are added on for a championship fight. You have non title fights over ten rounds, the extra two rounds are added for the championship fights, therefore 11 and 12 are the championship rounds.

Saying 'the last three rounds used to be the championship rounds so that means that the last three rounds today are the championship rounds' is pretty stupid because the length of the fight was different then, therefore the proportion of how many championship rounds there are is different. Championship rounds just refers to the extra rounds added on for the championship fights. Therefore they used to be 13, 14, 15. Today they are 11, and 12.

I actually was under the impression thast back in the day it was 11,12,13,14,15 that were the chmapionship rounds tbh. For example, Kid Gavilan and Sugar Ray Robinson had a non title fight, it was a ten rounder, then they fought for the title, it was a fifteen rounder. Roberto Duran would fight many ten rounders, including his non title fights with Carlos Palomino, Adolfo Viruet, and his loss to Esteban Dejesus.

They were non title fights and therefore they were fought over ten rounds. The traditional championship rounds were 11 through 15. I'm talking since the inception of the fifteen round distance of course. Championship rounds meaning the extra rounds added on for a championship bout.

There are obviously exceptions, but this is my standpoint.

Agree with you. Based on what I've heard commentators say and how fights have been scored, the championship rounds are the last three of a major title fight. This, since 15 rounds fights were outlawed.

You are correct from a traditionalist point. Anything after the 10th was considered the championship rounds. A lot of non-title contests were fought at 10 rounds in different weight categories. Many of them exhibition fights with the prize money pre-established before the fight.

There were non title fights over 12 rounds, usually eliminators.

There were non title 15 rounders. It all started to go wrong when the BBB of C got rid of 15 round British Title fights.

Ali - Mac Foster and Quarry 1 were over 15 and quite a few of his other fights post exile were over 12. Bugner 1, Lewis, Blin, Lubbers.

Do any of you think it would be possible to make any kind of campaign that could bring back 15 rounds?

No, it was of its time. I suspect in the 70s, people were bemoaning the final 20 rounder.

TV pressure under the guise of safety, has made the 15 rounder go the way of the Dodo.

This is correct. The championship rounds were rounds 11 - 15

But now that the one hour time slot is not an issue can't we get it back? If we come in unity we can get it done, no?

Are you guys happy to just have 15 rounds in the past and just love boxing in a historical sense? I celebrate boxing history but I still love boxing present, I would dearly love for 15 rounds to come back, it is my only major gripe with boxing today, I am at peace with everything else about it, and boxing is fantastic right now despite what many tell me, I just want 15 rounds to come back, that's all I need, then I'm in boxing heaven. We could get it done I reckon, but it seems a lot of people are happy to say boxing was better back then as if that's a great thing.
