It's been apparent for a while now that Povetkin will not go as far as it seemed he might a few years ago. Atlas decided to jump ship to keep his own reputation intact
Teddy had NEVER trained a fighter that he didnt blame fot the split after he left or got fired. Hes just an unstable person. I like him, but he is completely insane.
I haven't seen much of Povetkin previously, but any champion, even a paper champion, who allows himself to get as heavy and as badly out of shape as Povetkin was for the Huck fight, just doesn't love boxing enough, and needs a trainer to kick his ass. That's what I think Atlas did for him, kicked his ass.
Povetkin has regressed badly since Atlas trained him. This current version would definitely not have beaten Eddie Chambers. A few years back he was probably the fittest heavyweight in the division, and got stronger in the latter rounds of fights. He needs to severe links with Atlas now , while is still young enough to reach his full potential!
Not sure if you can blame Atlas for Povetkins drinking and eating habits. Povetkin looks fat and blown up, like if he was pigging out on junk food and/or alcohol in-between training camps.
***las deserves full credit for ruining a top prospect who already had his biggest wins up to now when he took him on
Povetkin even at his fittest has always looked a bit of a porker. Carrying a bit of subcutaneous fat does not always indicate lack of fitness.
