I wasnt sure Pettis even with a win would get so much consideration for the next title shot but the way he won justifies getting the shot. Nobody to my knowledge has ever KOed Joe Lauzon and Pettis did it in brutal fashion and of course has that win over Benson just alittle over a year ago. Frankie of course is deserving of a rematch. Edgar had to give Penn and Maynard rematches maybe its time Frankie gets the chance to prove himself a 2nd time. Great, close fight where alot of people seem to think Frank won. I always feel like when the Champ loses so close he deserves the chance to redeem himself. Then there is the winner of Jim Miller vs Nate Diaz. Aside from the fight agianst Henderson in August Miller has been tearing it up for about 3 years now. It came out before the win vs Guillard that he was suffering from kidney problems in that fight with Ben. Not sure it would change the outcome but Miller is always a threat. While Nate Diaz has been on a tear since coming back to 155 looking spectacular vs Gomi and being the first guy to really dominate Cowboy Cerrone.
I think Frankie should drop down. Maybe a tune up fight then another run if he wants to stay at 155. 3 rematches in a row would be a tough sell imo even though it was a good fight
Indeed Pettis/Bendo is an easy match to justify, with a ready made highlight reel from their last fight, which was a very close fight up until the kick in the last round. Frankie probably deserves a rematch, but the dude can't fight every body twice just to prove he won. A match up against anyone in the top 10 at LW will be great to watch and more than enough to justify him another shot after Bendo defends or against Pettis should he win.
Rematch with Frankie Edgar. Anthony Pettis was dominated by Clay Guida, and did not get his title shot because of it. Why should he get a title shot now?? Let him beat Clay Guida in a rematch, Hendo/Edgar II in the meantime, and let Diaz fight for the belt after Cinco de Mayo.
Because he's already beat the champion before (barely more than a year ago) and he almost took J.Lau's head off the other night. Meanwhile, Guida got his **** pushed in by Bendo, and I'd hardly call what Guida did to Pettis "dominating". Also, who else? As someone pointed out before, that'd be three rematches in a row for Frankie (and for the LW title), there's too much going on in that division to keep the title tied up among 3 guys for 2 years (as it already has been). Give Pettis his shot. Diaz can have his if he gets past Miller, and if Miller wins, give him Frankie and the winner can have a shot.
I'm not sure to be honest. Alot of people are unhappy with the decision but I think Frankie underperformed. He did give 2 immediate rematches though with no qualms. Benson vs Showtime is awesome rematch. Pettis just looked great but he is only coming off of 2 wins. Nate vs Miller is a few months away. Has to be Edgar or Pettis rematch.
Pettis got dominated. Guida took him down at will, shut down his stand up, and crashed the party.. 30-27 on all 3 scorecards. You better pray their isn't a rematch between these two. Melendez or bust.
If not Melendez, Frankie Edgar.. Close, and somewhat controversial result last Saturday, winning immediate rematches both BJ and Gray, and losing his title in such a close fight. So, anything other than an immediate rematch is completely unfair. How can they justify immediate rematches with Penn and Gray, but not Hendo? Weren't all these fights close? If he doesn't get an immediate rematch, it's baby kicks and footwork that did him in.
Not Edgar... The guy pisses me off. Let him drop down to 145 and get ****ed up by Aldo! Tony Pettis makes sense to me. He beat Hendo last time so let them rumble. Lynchburg
Melendez. As much as I think Pettis would make for a cracking fight, he is two wins (over average competition) removed from being wrestled to death by Guida. Melendez also offers an outstanding stylistic clash and he's riding a big streak of wins over pretty good competition, he also has a title of his own which makes the match-up prettier to casual eyes. I won't be bothered by either, however.
