Any truth in the rumour that Marciano did lose some fights early in his career but they were declared amatuer, even though he had already turned pro?
Agreed on all fronts, particularly No. 3 -- Tyson had last been seen in the ring disposing of No. 2 Carl Williams within 93 seconds on a single counter left hook. If he'd been at all successful slipping the jab Douglas showcased in Tokyo and putting together any sustained attack, nobody would've ever claimed he was past it. He got turned into a punching bag and Douglas wouldve been victimized by a robbery if he didnt get Mike out of there. Tyson's physical prime ended when he was convicted of ****. 1. That Vitali Klitschko wasn't the determining factor in Lewis retirement. Completely contradictory to various comments made prior to Vitali subbing for Kirk Johnson. 2. That Lewis only lost to McCall and Rahman due to underestimating them. Once is a lucky punch. Twice, it's time to call off the search. :deal
That's a mighty if, it didn't come remotely close to happening. I'd say the "fight" sure played a part, more so than the actual name. Lewis realised the time was nigh to end a great career. Lewis definitely wasn't very well prepared for the Rahman fight. He's sure on top of his game and fitness levels in the rematch. In the first McCall fight Emanuel Steward claimed some technical deficiencies in Lewis' game and helped put McCall right thru them. They were shored up rapidly as Lewis turned around and hired Emanuel in what was a fantastic move.
Nope, he was pretty much thoroughly dominated. Being ill-prepared for a particular fight doesnt validate the claim he was past his prime, physically. He had all the time and tools to be dominant. Suggesting otherwise is for hopeless so-far-gone nuthuggers and really an embarrassment. He was in the right to do so. It isnt anybody else's hide being put on the line. The sticking points are his comments before and around the time. It's become such a reach for people to even admit Vitali was clearly on that Lewis' level and plenty capable of taking his title from him in the ring. Without Klitschko in the picture, he disposes of the Kirk Johnson's of the division with little incident, all the while adding to his record and bankroll. I'm not accusing Lewis of having a glass jaw -- This is the Heavyweight Division. One could rightly argue the finer points of perfect punch placement and the force behind it, but ill-prepared or not, he was felled by a single blow as defending champion, before the mid-rounds, on two separate occasions. As a superheavyweight and even arguable Top 5 ATG, it puts him really in a class of his own there. Nobody's perfect. Plenty have come in overconfident/out of shape and lost. Not too many in that particularly embarrassing fashion. Considering the class he's in, it matters. Were those punches any harder than the blows from Earnie Shavers and Mike Tyson put on Larry Holmes? Who managed not only to continue, but even comeback and win against the former. Or the shots Foreman laid on Frazier, who continuously got up and came back for more? A lot of people criticize Tyson for never getting off the canvas to win a fight. How about considering how difficult it is to put him on the canvas to begin with? No doubt, a thorough beating preceded it sans the off balance shot Holy caught him with in '96.
That coming into the 13th round Walcott had beaten Rocky for all previous 12 rounds, IIRC i had it 7-5 at the end of the 12th. That the Marciano - Moore fight was fixed, anybody with functioning eyes can see that it's not fixed. If there was no "long count" Dempsey would've KO'd Tunney. Bull****.
That's 1 way to look at it. Another would be what does that ref do in the McCall fight if Lennox is the DKP fighter and Oliver is with a rival promoter? You think Lennox is not given an opportunity to continue just like Holmes was against Snipes and Shavers 2? Hell, if Lennox was cut like Larry was in the Smith bout, it would have been stopped with Oliver named the winner. History can read much different when a guy is the house fighter and any sort of controversy is reversed. Then you would only have that single ko loss by Lewis and things can get interpreted differently.
That Ali could have beaten Foreman without d ropes & without d heat . That Ali could beat Tyson , Lewis (although this is d least common 2c) , Wladimir , Valuev , Vitali , Bowe , or "even" Holyfield . That Ali surely beats Carl Williams or Tim Witherspoon . That Ali beat Chuvalo and Doug Jones . That Ali is a top 100 p4p and that he is a top 4 HW . That Roy Jones would have beaten Toney if he wasn't drained . That Roy was drained for his rematch with Tarver . That Leonard's wins (*) over Duran , Hagler & Hearns r legit . That Ezzard Charles and Archie Wright r top 20 p4p . That Jack Johnson is a top 30 HW (let alone top 10) . That Max Schmelling was a great fighter . That Louis would have eventually cracked Tua's and/or McCall's jaws . That Lewis' "victory" over McCall was legit . That Maskaev automatically loses 2d "greats" of d past . That Mayweather & Hopkins r p4p top 50 and that they r in d top 20 of any of their weights . That Bob Foster is a top 20 LHW . That Aaron Pryor was a great in any sense . That Charles Liston is a top 10 HW . That Willie Pep's resume is impressing . That Whitaker was robbed against Ramirez . That Arguello "beat" Ramirez .
All of these opinions are highly suspect...the ones that are bolded are especially ridiculous..the enlarged bolded ones are just plain insanity. Shame on you frankenfrank...you sound like a real crank.
Who is this ? not lefthook , not TGA , not sonnyboy , not Unforgiven , not D.T . , not klompton . not another PowerSlater alt , not lora , not ElMoochiya , not sir5hemalen , does any1 know who is it ?
I'm not even bothering to argue with your eccentric takes on the Ali fights. There are some things you mention, however, that I agree with. The Jones weight draining thing, for one. And Schmelling being a great fighter. Max would come into the 'very good' category, imo.
