what a joke...... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/teenager_s_boxing_hopes_in_tatters_after_ban_at_final_1_3567236
I know that kid not personally but been in the gym when hes training he use to box for a club called Moneyfields but they had to change there name to the Ted Harris Boxing Acadamey when the Moneyfields commitee forced them out of there own gym by putting the price up to rent there gymnasium. I think its a joke whats happened and the kid who won the national title by default like that must be just as dissapointed.
That's another sad part of amateur boxing in this country. All that Olympic money being spent flying ambassadors and toffs first class to champagne dinners, deciding how many tap dancers they should paint each colour for the opening ceremony, when grass roots sport can't afford to make the rent. For every trip Sebastien Coe and his entourage make you could fund a gym for a year. It disgusts me.
I heard his coach Ted Harris who has been involved in Boxing for over 30 years and coached the current coach of West Ham ABC,Mickey Driscoll is considering giving up and walking away from Boxing for good after these events.
What an absolute joke. I feel sorry for the other kid as well, he's ''won'' an event without winning the final. The referee should be executed.
Being honest why risk wearing an orange, brown, pink or red gum shield, the rules are simple Saying that, feel sorry for kids & the clubs involved
What I don't get though is what the official would gain by acting in such a manner. It's not as if the governing body will look upon his actions and say ''he did the right thing''. The lad didn't punch an opponent in the balls, he didn't kick him whilst down, try and bite his ear off or anything. He wore a gum shield that had been approved by the doctor. He could have just said ''I'm not happy with it, can it be changed please?'', and we move on.
but they offered to change the gumshield straight away and ina previous bout a ref let a kid change his vest which was on the same day as this incident.
I bought a £60 fitted gumshield from my dentist, it was red and white (colours of the football team I support)....a few months later they implemnted this rule so I only use it fo sparring now. So I got an orange one next and it looks the exact same colour as his- I've never had any problems with it yet, I better not in the future! cause I'm ****ed if I'm paying £180 in gumshields.
