Hatton was never an elite fighter,, Champion yes, elite no. Sure Erislanda Lara was putting him on his ass in sparring the truth is Hatton was never that good, somehow he got it in his head that he was better than he really was. The kid had a great career and was at the right place at the right time.

He should quit ****ing crying and be thankful for all the money he made. He was never going to beat May or PAC. He is lucky to have gotten past Collazo a fight he lost but was gifted with a decision. Far greater pugs than him are toiling and making **** for money they ought to be depressed and suicidal Lara is one. So Rick shut the **** up about it already stop making excuses please you were never going to beat Pac.

I dont think its the fact that he was woken up to reality that he wasnt that good. Maybe apart of it. But with alot of boxers and sports stars in generally they dont know what to do with themselves after their careers are over.

Ricky saw the mountain top, got dropped by 2 beasts at the top, and now he doesnt know what to do with himself.

Life has to be really boring for former professional fighters. Such a great, exciting sport, then you cant do it anymore. I think its why so many go so long and get themselves hurt or lose it like Hatton.

that must be why he whooped Malignaggi's ass before he fought Pac... who was #1 contender at 140 at the time.

oh no wait, Malignaggi was suffering from depression when Hatton beat him up.

****ing depression - ruining the sport

    That's a good point, Philla...
    I overlooked this one.

I think anyone would have a hard time disagreeing that Hatton looked class against Paulie M. And he did it by playing Paulie's game. Some how Hatton won with doing this boxing that he never really did before. He didn't so much get in close and bang out a win.... but he timed Paulie, sprung in, caught him and repeated.

I remember him saying after the Mayweather fight that he was "crying like a woman" and "all that is missing is a pair of tits".

It can't be easy to lose in front of a huge audience, let alone thousands of people who came across the Atlantic to watch you. Mix that in with binge drinking and that's not exactly good for your psyche. As others said though, at least he has a lot of fans, and got paid well. Most boxers don't get paid squat.

Lots of people are depressed, for a variety of reasons. However when it's a fighter (or football player), I do wonder if it's brain damage. We already know about pugilistic dementia, now we're learning more about CTE which is a variant of it.
