Settle a bet for me...Is there a minimum weight for a Heavyweight Boxer?

    I always thought that to fight as a Heavyweight that the fighter has to weigh over 12 stone 7 pounds.

    I've been told that I'm wrong....that there is no minimum weight stipulated.

    I know that eons ago that there was a minimum weight requirement but that may have been discarded.

    Don't know what the **** a stone is, but the minimum weight is 201 lbs

    There is a maximum weight difference for the weight class (12 lb for cruisers), It can be waived on the case by case basis but it is unlikely that difference of 50lb will be sanctioned.

    If my line of thinking serves... There is no minimum weight for any division. There is the range that the division is contested and the division in which a fight is contested. A fighter could choose to come in lower if he so chose and still have a fight at X weight class. If he is forced via a contract to come in within a weight range (higher/lower) not specified by the division it is a catch weight.

    The general rule though is that fighters cut to get down so a minimum weight is never a real issue.

    eh, yes and no. While there isn't any official weight on the books. A commission will never approve a fight, between say Wladimir Klitschko and Brandon Rios or something.

    that said the commission still have to approve the fight. If tomorrow Pac wants to fight Wlad for whatever reason they are not going to commission the fight. RJJ coming at 190 was reasonable weight so they commissioned his fight with Ruiz,

    201 to be "considered" a heavyweight. Doesn't mean you have to weigh over that to fight at heavy

    A stone is 14 lb.


    And there is NO minimum weight for a HW.

    In all seriousness, you have to be like that and be heavy like that in order to compete on a heavyweight bout. Can you name s fighter below HW that can compete against the guy like Vitali? I bet Koki Kameda can. lol

    WBA and WBC raised CW limit from 190lb to 200lb late in 2003. RJJ qualified as HW at 193lb at that time so weight difference limit did not apply.

    Theoretically, there is no minimum weight but there is a practical limit dictated by maximum weight difference allowance regulations.
